Boro thread

:lol: so you won't have a problem if we gave away free half season tickets like Newcastle then?
I'm referring to them doing it once and the context was that it was due to a boycott against the owner. I dislike them but acknowledge they have excellent support.

Sunderland are also well supported but many of your own supporters admitted that you regularly used to give tickets away the last time you were in the Premier League.

So what are you even arguing about?

Newcastle have very good support but very rarely have real bad times. They have more fans than us and sell more tickets.

Sunderland have very good support and get constantly shit on.

Both are absolutely lightyears ahead of Middlesbrough and always will be.

What's your point?

Most clubs give tickets away to schools happened since god was a teenager

Recall the 6-0 win owa Norwich at Ayrsome in the mid 80s freebie off the school loads of our year went I was in the corner of the Clive rd end

I said you're well supported but then you're both one club cities and have a massive catchment area.

Boro are also well supported in my opinion in the context of having some of the most expensive tickets in the division.

The poster I initially responded to said we'd never come close to Sunderland or Newcastle in terms of support but I pointed out that you regularly gave tickets away when you were in the Premier League, which bumped up your crowds.

You will never come close to sunderland or Newcastle in terms of support. You never have in history and won't in the future. You've even said we are cities and have a bigger catchment area.

So I'll ask again, what is your point? You can't disagree with that statement.

I will tell you what I have realised over the years living down on Teesside

Middlesbrough is not really a football town/city in the sense that Sunderland is.

When you watch people playing the 1st bars of Can’t Help Falling in Love and immediately every supporter in the land thinks Sunderland.
When you see the English keeper having a song from his own fans referencing his Sunderland roots.
Groups from all over the world supporting us.
References to great Cup finals ( capital C) referring to the Montgomery save , and the Porterfield goal. Bob Stokoe running over the turf. You never hear the league cup 2004 mentioned.

Ex players and managers like Henderson , Roy Keane , Quinny , Peter Reid all publicly backing us and appearing joyous ( not pleased, joyous) at us doing well.

National commentators saying the club is Back where at club and support its size deserves to be. Back in the league they have won 6 times
Even the badge referencing the ship building history.

The magnificent marketing of Til the End , little kids all over the country when the see the cats eyes they know it’s us.
Look at some of the Tifos. Just class.

Maybe it was the Sunderland till I die which got a lot of the country invested in us doing well ?

It’s just something Boro don’t have. Not knocking them , there is not a lot they can do about it. They just don’t have the charisma we have as a club.
They are not up there in the national football psyche like we are

Parmos, Pigbag and Roary the Lion can only take you so far.

And I believe , deep down , a lot of Boro fans get that. And what makes them more sick than Sunderland winning , was the way the national media fawned over us anyway , win or lose.

This is some top trolling, fair play mate. You got a right laugh out of me!

Where are these free tickets? I have been looking for them for years. I've tried every cereal and none. We got some in the Bob Murray years but they were never free they were £5 if I remember. Point me me the direction please. Loads of mackems in teesside would love some.

If Sunderland gave away free tickets, what are we talking? 500? 1000? Nothing really when your attendance in the prem is 45/46k with crap away support usually.

We had an average of 25,460 last season. I wouldn't say that is piss poor for the Championship. 26,905 the season before.

Sunderland and Newcastle are one club cities and you share a massive catchment area.

Newcastle have managed an average of 50k+ in the Premier League ever since they increased the capacity of SJP.

You were having to give thousands of tickets away a week to schools, sports clubs etc the last time you were in the Premier League.
To be fair marra Boro have decent support but you too have a big catchment
Nothing South of you until Leeds -west no one -North of Boro until us and the Durham south .( without mentioning pulling from Darlington -the biggest town in County Durham on your doorstep )
We get tremendous support and this giving tickets away 8 years ago is a bit rich -the Mags gave tickets away -when things were bad -discounted tickets ( not give aways ) isn’t a bad idea.
If you are having a pop we got bigger crowds in the third tier after 4 years there -then you did when you were in the Championship.
We average 40000 plus no give aways after finishing 16 th in the Championship and spending little with a manager no one has heard of

Why are so many smogs on here? I have just googled what the boro fans forum is and it's fmttmmmtmtmm or something. It's crap and from the dial up years by the looks if it.

They also have a thread about this thread.

So more will probs sign up here as they have an obsessed love hate relationship with us.
