Boro thread

Fair enough.
Tough division next year mind for you although will be very interesting tbf. Literally 10 teams in mix to go up but you'd expect the relegated 3 to be favourites. Birmingham will be in there too. Could be a dark horse to win it. Coventry under Lampard are a threat.

Very tough for us obviously but with the parachute money if worst happens we'll be very strong to bounce back if we come straight back down.
At least two of the three going up will come down I think.

I think Leeds have a real chance of staying up. A lot will depend on who they sign and which of the managers adapt to trying to grind results out rather than thinking they can out pass every one.

Burnley's defensive record got them up so I am interested at how that transfers across but they need to add goals to that team and a lot if they stand a chance.

Sunderland will need to strengthen in a lot of areas and I feel you will struggle if you go with O'Nien at the back. I feel he might break the record for the number of red cards a player receives in a season due to being scrutinised by VAR.

The year is 2078 and Boro have made their January run towards 5th, sadly they’ve then fell away for the 64th consecutive season. Club legend Hayden Hackney unveils his statue outside of the Riverside.
........And in this period (from 2025 to 2078), Sunderland have done their usual trips into the third tier after getting (but not really getting !!!🙄) parachute payments, but all the while being the nations favourite second bestest team (sounds familiar).

I think the trips to the third tier are over mind.....we've had some utter chancers in charge. At least you've had the stability of Gibson I suppose.

Despite all the grappling that goes on in the box in the premier league, how many times has VAR referred to it? Answer is probably less than 5.

O’Nien isn’t really the type to be going in two footed for a VAR red worthy challenge usually either.

Why is there a sarcastic face next to the parachute payments comment? Not being funny, but as a club, we didn't ever see that money. That money was essentially borrowed to buy the club by two owners who didn't have a pot to piss in. People lost jobs, the academy was stripped bare of every single asset and every possible way to save money was identified and put in place. That affects a football club for years to come and we're still, today, trying to put a lot of that right.

I will tell you what I have realised over the years living down on Teesside

Middlesbrough is not really a football town/city in the sense that Sunderland is.

When you watch people playing the 1st bars of Can’t Help Falling in Love and immediately every supporter in the land thinks Sunderland.
When you see the English keeper having a song from his own fans referencing his Sunderland roots.
Groups from all over the world supporting us.
References to great Cup finals ( capital C) referring to the Montgomery save , and the Porterfield goal. Bob Stokoe running over the turf. You never hear the league cup 2004 mentioned.

Ex players and managers like Henderson , Roy Keane , Quinny , Peter Reid all publicly backing us and appearing joyous ( not pleased, joyous) at us doing well.

National commentators saying the club is Back where at club and support its size deserves to be. Back in the league they have won 6 times
Even the badge referencing the ship building history.

The magnificent marketing of Til the End , little kids all over the country when the see the cats eyes they know it’s us.
Look at some of the Tifos. Just class.

Maybe it was the Sunderland till I die which got a lot of the country invested in us doing well ?

It’s just something Boro don’t have. Not knocking them , there is not a lot they can do about it. They just don’t have the charisma we have as a club.
They are not up there in the national football psyche like we are

Parmos, Pigbag and Roary the Lion can only take you so far.

And I believe , deep down , a lot of Boro fans get that. And what makes them more sick than Sunderland winning , was the way the national media fawned over us anyway , win or lose.
You could argue that a club that didn’t win a trophy in 128 years but averages just 5k less over the course of their history than Sunderland, is more of a football mad town. Imagine if Boro had won something before that, we’d have fans from all over. Most of your support is from Durham anyway.

Tifo😂 it’s hardly up there with the tifos the Milan clubs etc do is it? The lads behind the goal at Boro do them all the time, they look wank anyway in England as opposed to clubs on the continent imo

Didn’t you pinch the elvis song off Hull?

Are you trying to compare what them daft kids behind the goal at Boro (who most Boro fans themselves can't stand) do to what we've just done for the playoffs?  ha'way man. It's bedsheets and blurred faces behind that goal. Right set of helmets

Boro's modern day support is piss poor and we still push towards 40k on a regular basis even when we've had tough times.
You'll never come close to us or the mags in terms of support or relevance.

Just out of interest what was Boros average last season in comparison to ours?-with both pushing for a play off spot til the end

Tbf to Boro I think they have good support for their catchment area. I like the rivalry but having said that wouldn't mind them doing well next season.

Whereas saudis as everyone should know them as i want them to lose every game.

Agree both well supported clubs
Both passionate about their club
Averages
Boro 25 ,400
Safc 40,700
As you say catchment area comes into it
We have always done well for the size of our area .

Because, it can be dressed up as much as anyone likes, the fact is you DID get parachute money ( the same as us and Hull).
Its not the leagues fault (or anyone else's) how your club chose to use that money.
The 'sarcastic?' face is merely there to demonstrate how facts are distorted to make it sound like you were a relegated club that didn't get the payments - you did.

But, as mentioned, they weren’t able to be used as other sides could use them. They literally didn’t benefit the club, they were used to buy the club because of the state it was in. Obviously, we received the money, but subsequently none of it went into stabilising the club post relegation. Hence why we were relegated again. It’s not dressing it up, it’s facts.

But they were siphoned off to allow them to be paid to the previous owner allowing a couple of chancers to take over. So there is a very good argument to be had that the club didn't see a huge chunk of them. Because quite simply they couldn't be used by the club. It's a bit of a cheat code we couldn't use but that's in the past now.

………… also in this period (2025-2078), Seahamstar has racked up 1.7m posts on a Sunderland forum becoming the 3rd highest post count on the board (he is a Boro supporter)
