Maybe if you watched us a bit more you might change yr mind.I've been predicting you will implode this season. You've made a strong start but it won't surprise me if your form tails off later on in the season.
Used to be my local actually when I lived on Auckland street but haven't been in in years.
never mind, first postanyone got a link to this forum?
That's probably why we are seeing Mowbray doing so well. He's just the coach now, focuses on the next game - just the football. No dealing with agents, contracts, recruitment. Just a team of kids he can shape and mould, and guide them through their footballing career, which is what he likes the most from what I've heard/read. I think if he was a manager who had to deal with all that extra stuff, he wouldn't do it for long. Sounds like he's a bit fed up of all that. Here, he just focuses on the kids and their development, and winning matches.Thing is it’s not his football strategy at Sunderland. He has to work with what he’s given. Dare I say our recruitment team are better at recruit the right players to fit the longer term strategy than any manager, not just Mowbray. Maybe what we are finding out here is just how good a head coach TM could have been if that’s all he had to concentrate on.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘Manager’ at SAFC seemingly able to maintain momentum with a team that has so many changes. At a different level it’s like watching Man City swopping and changing seamlessly.
What we have here now is all about the longer term sustainability of the team and its performance.
Most clubs but particularly Boro under Gibson have purchased players for the here and now, largely driven by what the manager needs to stay in a job this week or to capture the fans imagination.
Spot on.That's probably why we are seeing Mowbray doing so well. He's just the coach now, focuses on the next game - just the football. No dealing with agents, contracts, recruitment. A whole team of people are shaping the team so there is continuity to it even if TM departs. Won't be saying 'well, it's October, let's wait for the new manager to get his players in. Wait for the window, and next year try again' like we have since about 2008.
How are they doing this season?

Either I'm completely delusional or they are, their squad is nowhere near as good as ours. Who are their equivalent creative players like Clarke, Roberts or Pritchard (or even Dack, Ba and maybe Aouchiche)? Obviously anything can happen in a 1 off game but who should we be fearing when we play them next month? They also don't have a Ballard level defender or midfielders as good as Neil and Ekwah imo.You must be logged on to see external links
Bless em.
lightyears is a stretchAchieving a 6th placed finish without a striker wasn't steadying the ship, he's pushed us on further than even he could've imagined. Not to mention the squad he had for his first full season at Boro is lightyears behind our current squad. We managed to bring Patrick Roberts, Alex Pritchard, Semedo and Aouchiche off the bench on Saturday.
We have a top 8 championship squad, you have a bottom 8 league one squad with very few assets to cash inlightyears is a stretch
Did drop off under him but still think with the resources we had he did well. One of the better managers in this league. If he was from Spain or Portuguese not saltburn I think he’d get more credit because the footy he played was always decent. Not premier league leve manager but definitely above average for championshipI've been predicting you will implode this season. You've made a strong start but it won't surprise me if your form tails off later on in the season.

You didn't notice last year did you? We did the opposite of implode last year, despite horrendous injuries we just got better and better. We have a stronger squad this year than last year despite losing Amad. There something about Mowbray and the current Sunderland set up that just seems to fit. I've no idea about Boro but you'll have to hope that one or two of your signings come good or you could be in trouble.Still very early days. Think ourselves and Sunderland will both end up being midtable come the end of the season to be honest.
Sunderland have started well but how many times have Mowbray teams imploded 2nd half of the season.
Middlesbottom, get back to YorkshireHow are they doing this season?

Leroy Lita and Scott McDonald were your best attacking players that season weren’t they?lightyears is a stretch

Any chance Carrick will get the chop if you lose to Sheff Wed ??Did drop off under him but still think with the resources we had he did well. One of the better managers in this league.
