Never understand the thinking of replacing a manager with one playing style for a new manager with a totally different style of play. It's as if the people who hire & fire managers know feck all about the game/
Aye, Stoke have done it for years and also allowed the new manager to bring in their own players and own staff meaning every time it goes tits up they start from scratch again.

Normally i would agree, however, Carrick's playing style did not suit our defence at all. If Edwards gets the defence to function and stops making them play out from the back every single goal kick then that in itself will be as good as a new signing.

I dont expect us to be a carbon copy of how Luton played. i am hoping it was that Edwards new how to get the best of those players and hoping he can do the same with us.

Edwards has been on record saying he didn’t want to play the long stuff with Luton but had to with the players he had at his disposal. I don’t think we will suddenly become a long ball team.

I think I read somewhere that Edwards played that way at Luton because it suited the players he had? - so will be interesting to see what he comes up with for your players.

EDIT: I see someone else read that and made the point first.

That defence basically is Carrick's defence though isn't it? He's been at the club whilst all of them have been brought in? Ayling, Giles, Engel, Van den Berg, Borges, Bangura, Lenihan (i think) all arrived under Carrick whilst Isiah Jones, McNair, and Clarke have all been allowed to go.

We appear to have posted the same info.

I think you are right but he had them playing in a way that did not suit them. Also, 80% of that list seem injury prone.

Ayling - Legs have gone
Giles - Sent back to Hull to hopefully never return
Engel - Forgot we even had him. Might be okay in a 3 at the back, is no way a wing back
VDB - Our best defender and has a promising future. needs to stay fit and could do with a reliable, more experienced partner
Borges - Looked ok as a centre back, again could do a job in a 3
Bangura - Cant defend, never fit
Lenihan - Id be suprised if he ever played again
Edmundson - IF we stop playing out from the back, he would be okay. Lacks pace and cannot play out from the back.

It's not a promising list  Needs some serious recruitment over the summer that back line.

All truly dreadful defenders, needs major surgery as none of them are championship level
