It was a joke. But in reality the club may have asked for the rest of the process to be kept quiet after the leak last week led to loads of awkward questions being asked of the managers.

Him being sent home for treatment seems unlikely to be true. Would be surprised if he wasn't in talks with us by Wednesday.

Last season in seemingly every interview he gave he expressed the desire to not be here this season claiming he was a big game player wanting to play for a top team. My feeling is that he still doesn't want to play for us and is holding out for another team to meet the already highly publicised asking fee. He might still end up here if no one else bites, but I very much doubt we'll be amongst his preferred options.

I think he probably looks at who has come in and thinks he's got half a chance of establishing himself at Liverpool, however likely that is. Given the sides relative positions last season I don't actually blame him for giving it another year or six months and like you say he probably thinks he could do better.

Judging by his Twitter comments (if real about coming back for treatment) I sense he's barely entertaining the thought of coming here right now, unless they either make it clear he's being frozen out or sign someone top class. The key may well be the amount we've offered. Not totally over the top in the current climate, but I don't think anyone else will value him at that.

Or we want to let you go at this price. I'd think it more likely the club would have asked them to stop playing him in meaningless friendlies if a deal was imminent.

Neither club "announced it"....it was leaked to the Liverpool echo and then both managers were asked about it. Rodgers confirmed it, then Poyet was asked what the progress of the deal was.

But a deal wasn't "imminent"......we just agreed a fee. He is their player, we have no right to ask them to drop him.

Both clubs have been perfectly open about it.
Can you name one other player where a significant fee was agreed with a club and they were played Ina friendly the next day?

They wont loan him to us, weve offered 14 million. it would be ridiculous business by them

If he doesnt want to join on a permanent why would he want to come back on loan?

What would be the point in Poyet denying it after Rodgers has already said we have agreed a fee?

I think you've gone in a time machine back to page 20. I can't name an example.....I don't know what that's supposed to prove though other than how negative you are determined to be.

If Rodgers was happy to admit a bid had been accepted why would he now be trying to hide the fact he was flying home for talks in case sky sports news got hold of it?

Why would Liverpool even entertain a loan deal when there is £14m on the table? Seems ridiculous.
