Booing the team off

Yes being there, buying things from the club shop etc is a way of supporting the team.
However, it does nothing for the atmosphere in the ground and is not really enough.
When we start thinking that not booing the team off, having stayed to the end, is good support, then football is really done.

I was meaning getting behind them as in urging them on but not singing songs.

As for the booing, sounded to me like the booing came from the same people who were singing (not all of the people singing obviously), maybe part of it is just that some people will express their feelings whether it's singing to get behind them or booing when they're not happy with what they've seen. I don't think booing is a sign of any lack of commitment to it. Reckon it's just more of a personality thing, some people like to vent when things don't go their way. I've never booed a Sunderland player or team in all of the years and matches I've been at over the years. It's just not in my personality. One of those things.

My opinion is that getting behind the team instead of booing or getting on the players' backs will be more likely to lead to better performances, but I've no way to prove that.

It's a bit of a mountain out of a molehill anyway. It's a bit of booing at the end of the match and daft jeering of our keeper among a small minority. Not the end of the world.

And that makes it ok?

We used to pride ourselves as being a cut above them.
All clubs fans do it.
Support is shown in different ways. Just because people aren't singing songs, it doesn't mean they're not behind the team.

Agree with the early leavers point though. Is it just me or has it got better recently? Fewer early leavers? I could be imagining it.

As for booing, it's rarely happened, it's a small minority, I don't think using that to demonstrate that the support 'has been awful all season' is legitimate.
Much more of a problem although I think improved a bit since Leeds game tbf

I'm struggling to think of a time when I have booed the team off. Possibly when Moyes was manager but even then I'm not sure.

I wouldn't boo the current team because they are young lads who are putting in plenty of effort. But people pay their money so it's up to them I guess.

If we had a team full of experienced mercenaries who were clearly going through the motions & stealing a wage then I would understand the booing more.

That's an absolute disgrace. The first game lost at home for nearly a year and the side deserves that?

Not what you would expect from supporters that constantly let everyone that they're the best. Does anyone really think it's the best way to go to get the players to give 100% next game? You would think the side is doing a Luton or similar. A mate sent me a similar video he took yesterday at your game. Says the support hasn't been very good most of the season.

The players need support not abuse. Keep this up and you might as well consider the season over.

I was not pleased after the Plymouth game with some of the booing, this is a team that has out performed most fans expectations.

That wasn’t from yesterday you dickhead.

So nobody booed or left early?

Everybody where I was, was behind the team for 90 minutes. A few jeered Patterson in the next section which was just daft and a few booed at the end.

I'd put a guess in that a decent number of those booing at the end spend a lot of money and time devoted to Sunderland.

You should have been watching football 35/40 years back. People then really did let the team know what they thought, good and bad.
