Booing and abuse

And about 6 of those were relegation battles. It was hardly a dream team. We had a couple good seasons like I've mentioned. I started going 1988 and most my younger years we were a struggling championship team until Reid came in. A season under Smith we finished 6th, beat the mags and 1 season in top flight and relegated. Just his post about accepting mediocrity, well our history over that time, says other than maybe a handful of seasons, that's what we've been so what's he expecting?
Yes, we haven't set the top flight alight except for two seasons in my time going, and I started in 1980. But some quick maths means in my time we've been in the top flight for more years than we've been out of it. So a bit better than 'lower championship' although I'd definitely agree it's mostly been very medicore:)

Hmmm. The same players have demonstrated that they are capable of performing. That they can pass, press, tackle, shoot, score… etc etc. And, more importantly, that when they make a concerted effort, play as a team, apply themselves with spirit and enthusiasm , they get results.

From what I can tell by reading these forums, however, none of the above is happening at the moment. Now, if a player isn’t all that good, but plays with enthusiasm and gives it a go, supporters are more likely to be forgiving (albeit they usually aren’t) but when a player obviously has some ability but, for whatever reason, doesn’t appear to be applying themselves, then that is unforgivable. And supporters have every right to make their feelings known.
Players aren’t the problem.

I havnt renewed and a won't renew while these fookin chancers run the club. Happy clap on and be happy we 'overachieve' at being 4th. Weve been ruined by the fans acceptance of mediocracy. Show some fkin bollocks and demand more or accept the shite we see.
We’ll continue to support and you can jump on the bandwagon when we start getting on the up again mate.

Did you count the Div 1 in the early 90s when it was actually Div 2 when the PL came about? In the 45 seasons starting from 1980/81, this is our 23rd season outside of the top division as we've been top flight 22 seasons.

Div 1 - 22
Div 2 - 18
Div 3 - 5

Our averaging finishing position is 25th and strangely we're finishing 24th this season. In the last season of the PL in 2016/17 our average position was 22nd. Our average position was only less than 20 up until 1984/85 when we got relegated after 5 seasons in Div 1.

Cheers for the detailed layout mate. I only did a quick count in my head. I didn't count division 2 as top tier, I just did a quick trip down memory lane starting with our promotion under Ken Knighton of years in the top tier. So I was slightly out, we've spent one more year in the second tier. However, the other poster saying we have been a lower league second tier club for the majority of the time, is incorrect using your data.

Since non of the unhappy ones can do anything to change anything
( moaning ,booing , etc doesn't work)
Surely its best to step back away from it . Leaving people with a different outlook and the team to work through a tough period and find their form again

You do know what pre seasons means?

I do and this is what this is. Our season finished weeks ago (4th)..so its a pre-season ready for the play offs...and against teams who are going all out to desperately get 3 points. This was always going to happen.

Yep and now we've shown what may happen in the stands if we mess up the play offs. Lovely, great way of giving players that extra motivation to get promoted.

In my youth I said we were. Buxton, Butcher and Crosby days. Parts of Smith. My point was how he said we accept mediocrity, when our history the last 45 years suggests that's pretty much what we've been so what's he expecting?
