Blasphemy

I was looking at Sonny Baker’s bio and see he’s another privately educated lad. The culture of English cricket is just awful. Cricket has a huge working class history and yet the system is so heavily weighted against poorer kids. Find it very hard to let my patriotism win out over class consciousness.

Also, when you add to it the lazy arrogance that accompanied the last Ashes in terms of preparation etc it’s just very hard to like us.

So I’m gonna support Australia.

Wasn't selected today in the playing XI

Is there a list of coach and players privately educated, could be onto something here

Given that very few state schools play cricket it's not surprising that there's an imbalance.

I haven’t to hand but I read articles about it a couple of years ago, like this:

Obviously historically it’s been the case, but still an issue. Private school kids make up 6.5% of the population of children for some perspective.

Still support England of course but it conflicts with what it feels like to support Sunderland where it’s about being the poorer underdog.
