*~*~* Blackburn v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

All comes down to having 45 minutes off nearly every week and leaving us a mountain to climb.

Said it for awhile but we struggle when we get pressed on the ball. Other managers have clearly noticed it aswell. We need to get around this one way or another but we do struggle.

Second 45 minutes we looked quality again and climb our way back into matches as teams start to tire. But they are always proactive getting new legs on who can get in our faces again and they start slowly getting into the game.

RLB subs aren't great mind and always seem abit reactive than getting them done whilst we are still on top. Can't blame him for his winger / striker running the ball straight into their keepers arms mind 😂 late Christmas gift.

A point on the road is quality but just imagine we hadn't thrown away some of the points we had late in matches and the Coventry collapse etc we'd actually be walking the league.

My disappointment tonight comes from witnessing a similar outcome at Millwall just a few weeks ago.

We’re ahead & in control - we need to see the game out by slowing it down & frustrating the opposition. Instead we go chasing another goal but surrender possession too easily.

Maybe it’s naivety or maybe it’s tiredness but we know that our undoubted potential won’t be realised until we learn some better game management - and that’s RLB as well as the players.

just got back. felt gutted for mayenda for not burying that chance, he looked absolutely devastated.
we weren't at the races first half but bossed the second so a draw was perhaps a fair result.
great away support.
apparently it's blackburn's policy that you can't take christmas cake in the ground. we met our mate from birmingham at the turnstiles and we gave her a chunk of a cake we'd made. the stewards weren't going to let us take it in, they relented in the end but what a set of bellends.

Not sure how I feel having thought about it on way home

Yes it's disappointing to drop two points right at the end but after that first half would have definitely taken the point

On Mayenda my main criticism is that he didn't even manage to get a shot away but it shouldnt have been on him to save us the game then as plenty of chances before then to put it to bed

7 from 9 was target over Christmas so just means we need to win the next 2

I was at work during the game and only heard a few minutes of BBC Radio Newcastle in the car on the way home. By the time I finally got ready for the game it had finished.

How was it? Did we play well? I am guessing not. To fight back from a goal down to lead 2-1 is a massive achievement. But conceding a late equaliser goal is for me a sickner given how hard and how much effort we must have put in to lead 2-1.

First half we were poor. They really should have been at least 2-0 up. Second half we were excellent. Had the chances to make it 3-1 and didn’t. They didn’t create much second half and I never thought they looked like scoring tbh. Scrappy goal we conceded. We can’t afford to keep starting games so slowly. That’s killing us at the moment. Mayenda’s chance was gutting at the end. Would have been unreal scenes in the away end if he buried that.

Everyone can go imagine if we didn't do that though
