I know Sunderland have had some poorly handled situations off the field lately but I think Blackburn might beat us here.

They tried to sign a lad from Orlando. Completed all the paperwork an hour before the deadline and then forgot to send it to the EFL.

By all accounts he came over to sign, they changed their minds, he had talks with Sheff Weds, then Blackburn was back on, then he gets nowt. Messed the lad about proper.

If we did that we would have had to still send the fees to Orlando and the player would remain there.

They tried it once already. Had agreed a permanent deal for him only to cancel it while he was mid flight over to the UK. They then went back in with a loan deal

I read they changed their mind about signing him while he was already on a flight to the UK, so the lad had to land and try to secure a move somewhere else (which was maybe why the Sheff Wed link came about)

They (well, the football management) didn't change their mind about him per se. The board of directors apparently informed the DOF while he was on the flight over, there would be no transfer fees paid this window, so they had to scramble and work out a loan agreement.
