Obviously I'm well aware that in this day and age of offended individuals I'm running the risk.....but why are black people more than anyone else very good at sprinting etc and long distance running....obviously over the years I've watched lots of 100/200 metres finals and they're all black....so apart from Alan Wells got me thinking....is it a DNA thing ?

Im going to be banned aren't I :( it was honestly just an observation ...there must be something in their make-up

Not sure about that question mate. But I'm pretty sure the big lads that play in the nfl in America are due to the slave traders back in the day breeding big lads and lasses together to get super slaves.

It's not genetic, it's economic. Many black people have faced diminished educational and work opportunities due to racism and discrimination, as a result sports have offered an opportunity for many of them to escape poverty when they had little other chances in life. This is primarily why there have been so many black footballers and athletes in the UK, France and from wider Africa.

Good post. Probably be a bit of both imo

You are essentially saying they dominate some sports because it's the only way they can be successful.

That doesn't really ring true, there certainly is a genetic factor. We live in a world where the most affluent people can afford a lot of time and money to allow their kids to develop athletically, and support them through it. You can become good at something with practice, it takes more than that to be the best in the world.

Not saying either you are completely wrong, or I am completely right btw, that massive motivation is required to get to that level.

I dunno mate. Got to be some economic factors involved imo. Just take West indies cricket for example. They are seeing a dirth in the quantity of their talent pool being diminished by footy, athletics, gridiron etc cos they pay more money.

It's both.
Gotta b

To be fair, it's been very civilised.

I read the first couple of pages and it seemed to consist largely of 'I don't know', 'just because', 'I'm not going there', 'there's going to be trouble' and a lot of the OP going on about how it was entirely predictable that loads of people would get all outraged and critical... when nobody had.

My small contribution is to enquire whether the paucity of black swimmers in the Commonwealth and Olympic games etc., is to do with bone density like I read somewhere once?

I don't think so. Facilities and opportunity. Tennis is mostly white until Pop Williams thought he could train his daughters to become world beaters.

I guess it comes down to many factors.

I suspect inclination is one such factor that is often overlooked. The choices that people have vary around the world, and even in the same place may still be quite different for ethnic groups

Olympic swimmers need heated pools at regulation sizes. Plenty in the west but not many in developing countries.

You could argue they could train outdoors, but it would be less accurate for lap times etc and crocodiles and pirahnas might chomp them

Never met or saw a black lass that I fancied in the least.

Fancied lots of other non white lasses though, of various shades and hues.

Why are black people in general not very good swimmers (in terms of medal winners)...? it's certainly a DNA thing.

Probably down to their bone density and muscle mass (or ability to develop muscle mass) DNA make up...

This is not based on any scientific data what-so-ever....

Tennis coaching is very expensive I believe. Not a big fan but knew a few good players when I was younger and I heard many very talented could afford it. Will be exceptions obviously
