Could have just googled it, there will be shit loads of studies into it, sure the media will have covered it loads too. I'm certainly not remembering that from reading in depth analysis into the genetics of athletes, probably half remembering it from a BBC article.

There was also a study looking at Jamaican sprinting. It mensions a gene that had could have links with running, it causes a bigger than average heart so theres a better flow of oxygen to muscles. The gene was more common in Jamaicans than Africans, who had it more than Europeans.

It makes sense I guess because in much of Africa very little grows in terms of eadible plant life so they probably had a much more hunting based evolution whereas in Europe and east asia whilst we did hunt there was also much more of a gathering culture from berries and fruits etc.

I'd be suprised if climate didn't come into it aswell.

Africa is the second biggest continent in the world. It has everything from deserts to rainforests.
 
Very strange thread this. Op said long distance as well. I can think of world champion long distance white people. But everyone concentrating on sprinters
 
It's not genetic, it's economic. Many black people have faced diminished educational and work opportunities due to racism and discrimination, as a result sports have offered an opportunity for many of them to escape poverty when they had little other chances in life. This is primarily why there have been so many black footballers and athletes in the UK, France and from wider Africa.

You are essentially saying they dominate some sports because it's the only way they can be successful.

That doesn't really ring true, there certainly is a genetic factor. We live in a world where the most affluent people can afford a lot of time and money to allow their kids to develop athletically, and support them through it. You can become good at something with practice, it takes more than that to be the best in the world.

Not saying either you are completely wrong, or I am completely right btw, that massive motivation is required to get to that level.

Most long distance champions these days are Kenyans/Africans. They've evolved to be able to run for long times without water and suffer less from fatigue. Look at Mo Farah, totally dominates the sport.

Obviously if you go back 20, 30, 40 years there were less Kenyans in the sport so less Kenyan champions, but nowadays with National sports funding and grants a lot more Africans get the chance to compete.

Some races are naturally better at things than others, that's just a fact. You'll never see an Eskimo long distance runner.
