Bid rejected for Clarke

Doesn't cost anything to go after a player. The costs of keeping someone unhappy can be huge.

While we all want to fight the good fight, its far better being on better terms with all including agents, if at all possible.
DIdn't contradict any of that marra. But if a club sees us blanking all offers on Clarke, they may think that for this window, we are closed for business re sales.

Yea, I get that in theory, it just costs them nothing to try their luck is my point (worst case they get told no, best case they destabilise another club and possibly get a cut-price player).

And that's if we even do want a closed shop. We've spent/lost a fair whack over the last 2/3 years, assuming we want to continue doing so, it'll need to come from somewhere.

Then you maximise your sales revenue, even more reason not to consider derisory offers for high value assets.

The main thing is that there's either adequate replacements in the club or lined up when an acceptable bid is made for our best players.

Think Clarke is one of the more difficult ones to replace as he works so much harder defensively than most wingers and also has an excellent understanding with both cirkin and Pritchard.

Stewart Ballard Neil and Roberts will probably also have clubs looking at them no doubt.
If there was only one player I could choose not to lose it would be Clarke. For me the player of last season, and is so important to the team, and more so, since Amad has gone.

He’s never worth 25 million mind, championship players don’t go for that sort of money, if he’s worth 25 does that make Almiron worth like 100 million?

How about £20m plus whoever Burnley's best player is.
Do you think they would go for that?:D
Time to crack out my expert FM negotiation tactics

20mil + 50% next sale + 50% profit on next sale + 10mil after 5 league appearances + 20mil after 30 league appearances + 50mil after 1 international app

All up front in one payment and we will refund you back what is due if those things don‘t happen in his career. Unless he gets a career ending injury in which case you don’t get anything back.

I can’t say fairer than that.

We're not selling our best players. End of.
This would be a strange position to take. I agree, we should not be selling our best players unless an acceptable offer is made. If someone came in for Clarke offering £50m I think we will be selling. It's all about striking the balance that allows us to continue to grow valuable youth players, who develop into first teamers, who then sell for more than we value them. That money is partially re-invested in higher value youth players and so on. This is sustainable and allows us greater power in the transfer market, all while improving the standard of our first team.
