Bid rejected for Clarke

It’s common sense really, wonder how many people would stay in their current job if they were offered double or triple salaries somewhere else just because they like where they work at the moment.

This is such a stupid thing to say. And it gets said a lot. If you were earning more money than you could possibly spend then double the amount doesn't effect you as much.

Out of the three clubs linked, I imagine only Everton would interest him. Mind, I’m not sure they could even afford him given the mess the club is in.

Honestly what is the point in selling for 10/15m? So this model we've got, which is working really well, is to grow players, like we have with Clarke, into a valuable asset, but then sell him first chance we get for way less than what he's worth? I'm saying absolutely bollocks, surely. As mentioned, loads of championship players have went for high fees, if it's any less than 25/30m it'd be bonkers from our side. He's not anywhere near out of contract, one of our best players, young, English, but clubs are offering 7m? Surely we should laugh at offers like that.

If he doesn't want to go, keep him, let's keep as many of them as we can, build on last year, especially if they want to stay. If he wants to go, 25/30m would be what he should realistically be going for. Go up next year though, with him, his valuation massively increases.

Irrespective of what the fee is, it’ll be undisclosed and the buying teams fans will pretend they signed him for £42.78, 4 assorted coins of different global currencies and 2 sherbet dibdabs.
The selling clubs fans will instantly believe they got £40m and numerous add ons.
Sunderland fans will however believe we got the lowest fee mentioned and cry about lack of ambition.

Think most can accept this, but we all trust our recruitment team not to cave. We’ve no reason to sell on the cheap and will be looking for around £20m thankfully.

I’d be gutted if the lad left but a deal around £20m would represent a £10m+ (estimate based on what we paid, and the spurs sell on clause) profit on a player signed just 12 months ago.

Yep, it’s why I can see us accepting a bid around that figure. I don’t know what team would throw an offer of around £20m at us though - I really doubt Burnley would.

Yeah, I can’t see Burnley spending that (also can’t see Clarke forcing a move there either).

Everton would be an interesting one as despite the fact they are a basket case, they are still a big club and it may tempt Clarke. Mind, I don’t think they’d spend £20m so they’d likely make Clarke force a move.

Palace is a bit meh tbh.

Be interesting to see what happens.
