Bid rejected for Clarke

It’s common sense really, wonder how many people would stay in their current job if they were offered double or triple salaries somewhere else just because they like where they work at the moment.
I just said that above. I bet most would leave for an extra couple of quid an hour. Those that say they’re not money motivated are probably retired, financially secure with the luxury of hindsight.

Clubs are testing the waters with us. They are seeing if we're a soft touch in the transfer market and are trying to get players under value. I'd have very serious concerns with those running the club if we accepted a bid of anything close to 10 million for clarke.

It does seem entirely daft to entertain anything short of 20, but it is becoming a bit disconcerting IMO the amount of media stuff pointing towards far below that figure.
I know. I just can’t see us selling so low. Surely

Wouldn’t be a good start for “the model” if we do. If we sell high and reinvest decent amounts while progressing and keeping the club stable then that’s one thing. However selling a player like this way under market value. Can’t see KLD/Speakman doing that. I’ve been impressed with them so far. Time will tell I suppose :D

Been speaking to a mate who's a Burnley ST holder. Reckons they're in the market for a number of wide players and the £7m Clarke bid is a bit of a game to show other clubs they won't be held to ransom for the player they want and will look elsewhere. He also stated if they were selling Zaroury he'd want £25m, and he's the same age as Clarke with a worse output last season. Doesn't think for a second Burnley expect to get Clarke for anything close to £10m. Suspect he might be onto something.

I trust them fully, I do just wonder if one or two of these players have release values in their contracts that we're yet to learn of.

Being a professional footballer isn’t a normal job though. It’s daft to compare
It’s a living with a short period of time to make as much money as possible. Why would he turn down an opportunity to set himself up for life with a big money move.
If he stays here and has a dip in form that opportunity has gone. I don’t think it’s daft to compare at all.

Maybe he’s already set for life with his current contract (until 2026?) and he enjoys playing football here. He’s young enough that he’s got plenty of time to enjoy his career and get a big move at some point in the next 5 years. He’s good enough clearly.

It’s not just about money or you’d just go to Al Quaeda.

Not saying he definitely won’t go like and the money is insane.

I’m in a similar position now where I’ve got a job offer for more money but I’m happy where I am and it’s a tough decision.

He’s already had a move to spurs which would have been a good contract and he won’t be on peanuts here.

We don’t know how his time at spurs of not playing affected him mentally and he might want to consider any potential move before potentially being in the same situation. I know it would kill me training all week and then having no game at the end of it

You probably need to take into account that (in Clarkes case) he's already been to Leeds and then had a big money move at Spurs. He may even be on less money here, but his agent has expresses that he's happy and he's playing his best football to date.

If this was going to be Clarkes first move to a Premiership club, then I think your point has more weight, but this lad has been about already and (maybe a bit like Roberts) is finally enjoying being in a settled environment where he is a star player.

£7Mil.Billy Bullshit Nixon doesn't think the average football fan has any brains if he thinks he can peddle this shit successfully. Although I'm sure Burnley would love to get him for that much why would we sell to make virtually no profit. We aren't mega rich but we don't need to sell and the recruitment staff aren't stupid either.

You really believe that's how footballers think?
I don't think it's silly to suggest this about a player like Clarke, who has already had a big money move, had a shite time, gone out on loan numerous times and fallen to the wayside. He spoke out it honestly a few weeks back with the Athletic.
