Bid rejected for Clarke

So because someone didn't enjoy something once they should never try it again?🤷‍♂️
Yes well I think it would have a massive impact on his decision making.

He could potentially move to Burnley, have a really shit time, shit experience, get relegated. Where as stay here, continue enjoying his football and hopefully be promoted. I'd like to think the latter is his thinking

You really believe that's how footballers think?

People love to pretend a player with no ties to the club would turn down a big money spinning move, all because he’s enjoying his football here 😂

If someone comes in and offers him more than us, he’ll be off like a shot.
100% mate. People need to get their head out of their arses

Some people aren't motivated by money. Clarke seems the type to put his career first over money.

Aye? You know him personally like?

He’s a young lad of course he’s money motivated, and if he’s not you can guarantee his agent or dad will be. I love all the people on here that preach this shite but would leave there job for a pay rise elsewhere.
Going of the things he's said since he's been here I reckon he's not monet motivated. Not everyone are, you maybe though

I imagine like most people his motivation has several dimensions of which money is only one. He probably wants to win things, play at the highest level, etc. And sometimes all those incentives are aligned and sometimes they aren't. When you are at the top of your game, like say Grealish, then they probably are if you are still developing then there is a trade-off to consider. So even if maximising your lifetime income is your objective, you still need to build your human capital to reach that peak. And to that you need regular game time in an environment that allows you to develop. For perhaps the first time in my lifetime Sunderland is one of those teams. Swaning off to somewhere has risks. You can go to a massive club like City and stagnate. He can ask Roberts what that was like and how that almost derailed his career. Or he could go to Burnley, a club which like us may not be the height of his ambition, get the game time but struggle in an environment which is more restrictive due to PL competition. It may suit him, and he might develop faster, but its a risk. These players have such short careers that these risks are huge. We know he is happy here, he gets game time, we play in a way that showcases his talent and he is getting better. He has 3 yrs left on a contract. That's good for us all round. Another year to develop and then that will be the time for player, agent and club to decide whether he stays here (probably on a new contract) or he moves on at a time where the club can still financially profit from the improvement in the player that they have been responsible for.

If we sell for £10m mind in todays climate…

Has to be bollocks. I’ve seen nothing from KLD or Speakman to say they’re not savvy

Even from a purely business point of view a Clarke doesn’t come around too often. Great stats, young, English, attacking, 3 year left on deal. Good character. This could be a transfer to really put some money into the club. I very much doubt they’ll sell “cheap”

It’s common sense really, wonder how many people would stay in their current job if they were offered double or triple salaries somewhere else just because they like where they work at the moment.

It does seem entirely daft to entertain anything short of 20, but it is becoming a bit disconcerting IMO the amount of media stuff pointing towards far below that figure.
