Bid rejected for Clarke

Do we? I'd argue our problem is more that we haven't sold anywhere near enough players over the years, as opposed to us selling the ones we have for too cheap. The ones we have sold we normally get decent money for. It's just most of our signings have been too old/ over the hill to actually make a profit on, most have just left on free transfers or too championship clubs etc. Then anyone we did sell we've just failed to replace properly - which makes the transfer look shit.

You have to go all the way back to 2012 to get to our last ten players sold for money to PL teams (where all the money is). Of those (bearing in mind inflation in the transfer prices since 2012-2015 ish ) i'd argue only Sess and Richardson were undervalued - and one of those was because we had an unstable manager running the club who he fell out with, and the other put in a transfer request and forced our hand. The rest we've probably done well with tbh. Obviously, as I said before, with the likes of Pickford and Kaboul it was more that we wasted their money rather than getting an adequate replacement.

Our last ten sold to PL teams

Pickford to Everton - 28m
PVA to Palace - 10.5m
Kaboul to Watford - 4m
Wickham to Palace - 10m
Mig to Liverpool - 10.6m
Sess to West Brom - 7m
James McClean to Wigan - 2.3m
Elmo to Hull - 2m
Richardson to Fulham - 2m
Turner to Norwich - 1.5m
How on earth we got £10 million for Wickham I have no idea.

Don't know this journo but IF this is true, good news all round. Sounds like he is wanting to stay but obviously going to use the interest in him to bulk up his wage quite substantially.
Eggsactly, 20M players would expect to earn 50K+ which we aren't going to give him, it's not our model.

Heard £18m and he will be gone unfortunately.
I’m not doubting that you’ve been told that but is it that simplistic? Surely it depends on a whole myriad of things, structure of the deal, various clauses etc?

Hypothetically speaking £15m all paid up front will likely be more appealing to the club than, say, £20m paid over a long period or with a load of performance clauses.

I said in an earlier thread Clarke was the most likely player to leave the club this summer. I don’t believe any formal bid of £9m has been received, if the lad does go, (every player has a price) although he is very happy at the club, the club would not sell him for a penny less than £18m to £20m.

Thing is, we should want to sell towards the end of the window. We get a big fee and everyone starts charging us more

Just let them all start bidding. Chances are they'll be more clubs interested, but will want to see the lay of the land first.

We should be in no rush, and I'd think we'd already have some players scouted in the event of such things happening.

Totally agree mate, lad who told me obviously hears a lot from within the club but not in any great detail. Also potentially a lot of Chinese whispers but whatever he’s told me has generally been correct.
