That's brilliant mateI found out on Sunday that my dad played at the Seat Unique stadium in Bristol in 1955 for Bristol University against Gloucestershire second XI. I've managed to find the scorecard on the cricket archive as well. Great bowling figures 12-4-19-2 plus he saw them over the line for the win when batting.
Medium paceThat’s tremendous.
What did he bowl ?
Bit of dibbly dobblyMedium pace
Yes, I've seen minor counties championship results as far back as 1899.That's brilliant mate
Do they have minor counties results on there?
Never been to grace road thenWho was it who said “there’s no such thing as an ugly cricket ground”?
Or words to that effect…
Best and Worst: Kenilworth Road, Luton.
‘Best’ because of its quirky, weird location, access and egress. ‘Worst’ because it’s a shit tip once you’re in and the actual surrounding area is godawful.
Otherwise I quite liked Tranmeres ground and Derby Counties but the SoL is the best football stadium I’ve been to. Old Trafford etc may be bigger and often more full, but a lot of them are a bit soulless.
I’ve not been to many other sporting stadiums but I enjoyed the whole experience of attending a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game at Veterans Stadium (now demolished). At the time I was there Sunderland were still in a crumbling Roker Park and football grounds were… that… ‘grounds’, not ‘stadiums’. It was an interesting experience to be shown to your seat, (aye, a f***ing SEAT) to have a beer and a hot dog, (I insisted) to watch a match unfold of which I had no clue but the Canadian fella next to explained what was happening, to visit CLEAN toilets, to have a Seventh Innings Stretch. It was a culture shock.
(The next year I took the Canadian bloke to Roker Park. Went to the New Derby for a pint, got him fish and chips, and watched a boring 0-0 against some team I’ve long forgotten. He got the rough end of the deal. He said he was impressed with how much the players ran around)
Been to any cricket grounds ?Best and Worst: Kenilworth Road, Luton.

Someone who's never been to Taunton...Who was it who said “there’s no such thing as an ugly cricket ground”?

Probably my favourite ground in the country.I'm at New Road for the first time today for Worcestershire vs Surrey.
I like it. Nice ground, nice atmosphere and a nice setting with the cathedral. The Premier Inn is a bit out of place.
You're not going there to live you're going for a day's cricket and the chat with the locals will be cricket centred.Never been but feel like I should. Always thought it might be a bit "middle England" for my tastes mind.
Can imagine their reaction to me telling them I've come down from Ull for the dayYou're not going there to live you're going for a day's cricket and the chat with the locals will be cricket centred.
