Nor can I. Our number 9 averages nearly 28 and number 10 averages 24. Even Jimmy has a solid defence.

fuck me the standard of bowling in world cricket is dog shite

whack our tail in against Garner, Holding and Marhsall and croft

donald, pollock and mcmillan

walsh and ambrose

lee, mcgrath and dizzy

and they would be lucky to average 10 between them (bar Broad)

fuck me this thread is verging on the insane.

Andy I cant reply to you anymore. Its cringeoworthy

to be fair you could whack any top order, nevermind lower order, in world cricket in against that lot of bowlers and you wouldnt get much change. silly lad.

Depends where you start the "tail" as most would say its the recognised bowlers only. So using this Test XI only you really have Anderson who you would class as a "poor bat". Doesn't mean we have the best tail in the world.

fair point tbh.

Atherton and Stewart barely averaged 40 now most of our lot average 50

standard of bowling is so poor in comparison to bygone eras

Agree with this... so many free runs to be had against shit "test" sides. Barely an express pace bowler out there now. Alec Stewart was englands best keeper batsman just about ever yet his test average is neewhere near as good as Priors (who is still a shit keeper for me and has been in and out of the side)

You arent wrong - this is generally a poor era in terms of quick bowling across the world stage. Pitches are generally far better for batting on later in test matches and outfields are faster than ever before which is another reason why the likes of Stewart and Atherton didnt have particularly great averages. Atherton's was 36 or 37 I think.

Surely you can't think that now. A few years ago perhaps but his keeping has vastly improved recently. Can't recall the last time he made a howler.

Indeed, Prior has worked very hard at his keeping and he looks as solid as anyone else in the game, you only have to look at Dhoni recently to see proper shit keeping.
