Ligue 1 is massively inferior to premier league so hardly a comparison is it.

18/19 League One - £1.795m spent in the whole division. Sunderland have spent £810k so far (45% of total expenditure)
16/17 Championship - £314.3m spent in the whole division - Newcastle spent £56.8m (18% of total expenditure)

You've spent nearly half of all of the total outlay in the division. What would you call a team doing that? What if Man City had spent £550m this summer and Boro had spent £90m? Would they have been buying the league?

Your second statement is skirting dangerously close to NET SPEND territory, mind.

Given that all mags seem to bang on about is net spend I thought I’d talk in a meaningless stat you’d understand.

Also if we’re “buying the title” then presumably that means the player we bought for £600k must be tearing up the league yes?

Don’t worry though - I’d be concerned if our manager spent £128 million and ended up relegating us twice as well.
