You are correct he brought us straight back up but he didn't spend £100m. It was closer to half that. £57m.

Hendrick is not solid, he's shite.

Benitez spent loads of money on the likes of Muto, Gayle, Saivet, Jacob Murphy, Daryl Murphy, Hanley, Lazaar, Atsu, Almiron, Lejeune etc. All of whom have either made a loss when sold, can't get rid of and have had loans away, and the ones that are still involved like Almiron, have had a very limited impact for the money spent.

He did make some terrible signings, he made some good ones too. Muto bad. Gayle was worth the money, scored the goals to get promotion and was £12m. Not PL level really but done the job he was signed for. Saivet wasn't a Benitez signing. Murphy £3m quid, scored winning goals in 3 or 4 championship games, worth the outlay for those 9 points alone. Sold for £2m after doing what he was signed for.
Jacob Murphy, been a bit of a poor signing. Never fulfilled his potential.
Hanley was signed to be a squad player in the championship, played his part.
Atsu, £5m winger. Exactly what you'd expect for that money. Loan deal in the champo made permanent.
Lejeune is a good player. Mental Bruce has tried to get rid. Lazaar, shite. Almiron, average.

It was often bad to watch under Benitez, much worse under Bruce.

I predicted last season that Bruce would match if not better where Benitez finished in the league. I take the piss but I can accept the premise that for those who actually go to the games rather than sitting watching the live league table on a Saturday afternoon, and once the strictly objective question of results is taken out of the equation, then yeah, it’ll likely be a more pleasurable experience watching a side organised by Benitez than Bruce. :lol:

Results are now matching the performances under Bruce. Doesn't look like he has a plan at all. Seems to select the starting XI based on how the previous game went rather than planning for what's ahead. Always seems to make fullback related substitutions to try and affect the game as well.

Liverpool he was an utter disgrace! He won 2005 champions league competition, fair play but everything else he was poor.

Wasted the prime years of Steven Gerrard, him and Torres held Benitez's Liverpool together.

Everyone in the area (West Kirby) said he was desperate for the Everton job. As much as I think his reputation is greater than reality he seems a decent family man. In fact the only reason he took mags job was that it was relatively close to home as his youngest was still at school.

He throws 5-10m quid around like confetti. 9.5m for Mutu, 25 games in two seasons (no idea how many starts) then loaned out. Maybe Grant Hanley, signed for c5.5m, played 10 games then discarded.

He was even worse at Liverpool but that is often forgotten due to signings of Torres, Alonso and Mascherano. See Acquilani and Dosena.

The latter, based on his comments after arsenal about getting caught out by fast counter attacks because we were so attack minded (mental!), where he said that's why we've been so deep lately (despite getting done on counter attacks about half a dozen times before arsenal).

They usually are. End to end stuff. We might even manage more than 4 shots on target in a game now the gloves are off.

Interestingly, now it's being done his way, every stat in that arsenal game was worse than our seasonal average. Shots for/against, possesion, goals scored/conceded, touches in opposition box, passes into the opposition box, corners, completed passes...
Whatever it was, it was worse than normal
