Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

Stats dont tell the story of a season. At that point you were stuttering with no wins in 3 and the team couldnt handle the pressure. It was the middle of April. If Huddersfield cut your lead to 2 points in that evening game you were in big trouble. Obviously they didnt but you can argue all you like I could trawl the forums after that game and many of your fans were saying youd blew it.

You limped to promotion as Huddersfield failing to put on pressure gave you breathing space. Then Villa had to help you win the league. You werent exactly comfortably strolling to promotion like we always did.

League table shows Man Utd being 4 points clear scoring more goals than Nufc and conceding fee goals. As we all know though you blew a 12 point lead

Stats can support or refute a position. You appear to be dismissing stats and facts, and instead basing your position on your opinion, which clearly goes beyond simple rivalry bias.

I could trawl through this forum and find people stating Sunderland would survive last season up until it was all but guaranteed, On boards of both clubs I could find people stating Newcastle would get relegated again, be mired in mid table, not make the play offs, not go up automatically etc. You can always find daft positions on internet messageboards.

The stats show Newcastle spent more time in the top spot than anyone else, that they accrued more points than all but 2 champions from the past decade, had a healthy lead for much of the season. Even the fixture you mention, after the loss we remained 5pts clear. Not 1pt, not level, 5pts clear.

We've had good sparring bouts before, but the position you've chosen this time is just ridiculous.

I think we've two good wingers from 4 players.

Aarons is exciting but made out of spun sugar
Atsu is a Match of the Day player, but if he can become consistent and improve his awareness he'll be good
Ritchie is a technical gifted, hard working, reliable winger for a midtable-to-bottom half side
Murphy is an exciting prospect but hasn't delivered consistently in the Premier League yet.

Ojo is like Aarons and Murphy, if he stays fit and can be consistent I think he's an exciting prospect. But I'd rather we put the mooted £10m towards a #10 or buying an actual left back.

They've spent £31m so far on 4 players

£6m Atsu
£8.5m on French defender
£12.5m on Murphy
£4.5m on Manky

Very little quality as expected for those fees just like our signings last summer as it stands

Think that's harsh on Lejeune and Murphy, but I'm not excited about Atsu and Manquillo, but they've not really cost a lot.

So what happened with Ojo?

Rafa tried to low ball Klopp, so Liverpool are pissed off and said they need to pay £10m for a permanent deal or forget getting him?

It can't be Rafa's fault, he is untouchable.

It's the CEO's fault as this is a negative story but they'll let you believe Rafa made a 30 million profit! I think it was the CEO who made the profit not the manager.

It probably isn't really though and signing squad fillers for £5m here and there all adds up given you's are probably well into your season transfer budget already

I don't think they need anymore players now. Having Rafa and 52000 screaming Geordies at the Cathedral On The Hill will be like having an extra man

Always makes me laugh that ...

... let's be honest, it's actually a bodge of a stadium on a council owned incline ;)

This questions and answers with Rafa after the game on Saturday. He actually says Manquillo has to improve from last season
