"England Lions management today confirmed that Kent pace bowler Matt Coles and Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes will be sent home from the current tour of Australia, following disciplinary hearings for unprofessional conduct.
The pair had contravened their conduct obligations previously during the tour and had been issued with written warnings.
ECB Performance Director David Parsons: “On a very challenging tour to Australia, both Matt and Ben have ignored the instructions given to them around their match preparation and recovery and, following previous warnings, it is regrettable that it has been necessary to terminate their involvement in the tour.”
“Both are very talented individuals and it is hoped that, with the support of the ECB and their respective counties, they will take positive steps to give themselves the very best chance of fulfilling their potential. There will be no replacement players called up to the squad as a result of this matter.“
Matt Coles issued the following statement: “I am very sorry about what has happened in Australia and I believe I have learnt my lesson.”
“I have apologised to the players and coaches involved, so would now like to move forward from this by looking ahead to the start of the county season at Kent.”
Meanwhile, Ben Stokes had this to say: “I would like to apologise for the way in which I acted. I am determined to bounce back from this situation and I regret my actions off the field. I look forward to getting back to my county to start pre-season preparations.”"
Times moved on from the likes of botham. Most international players where overweight and big drinkers but now the level has stepped up and you just can't get away with it. They are also paid at a decent rate where you should act professionally also if they did this in the proper England team it would be in the headlines not what the ecb wantI don't see though why our players have to be whiter than white.
Botham certainly wasn't, and look what we would have missed had he not played for England.
It's about time those in authority realised young lads are also human beings. That doesn't mean they have to be like the Joey Barton's of this world but I'll bet most of the current England set up has done things they aren't proud of.

Doesn't come as a surprise that it is drinking related. There are a few of them on Twitter that seem far more interested on their next Jagerbomb than their next 100 or 5 wicket haul. He has loads of ability but doesn't appear to look after himself too well - looked a good few lbs overweight last season.
Best keep him away from some of the admin staff just to be safe.
I know Ben and he is a cracking lad. No airs and graces and happy to talk anytime. He's been cracking with the bairns over the last couple of years.
However this isnt the first time he has been in trouble on England duty. He was also bollocked when he went to Dubai a couple of years back with the England Under 19's.
He has all the talent in the world and on his day is extremely destructive but someone at Durham needs to just take him under their wing, Benkenstein or Collingwood would be ideal, and have a quiet word with the lad just to get him on the straight and narrow.
It would be a real shame if he didnt fulfill his potential.
Cracking lad and looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks time.
