Root said himself he would be eased back in and that he would manage his workload. He did neither, he's captain...we all know Stokes would run through a brick wall if Root asked him to.
Why would you tell that to the captain
He was fit and trying to win a test match
It’s international sport
His knee injury has absolutely nothing to do with his side injury
Makes no sense

Nobody on here has said it does.
After the 1st Ashes test Joe Root said "Maybe I expected too much too soon from Ben Stokes". He then flogged him for 25 overs in 38 degrees heat the following test.
Stokes still recovering from injury went to the WI tour and then complained about pain in the knee and they continued to flog him
"With my knee problems out in the Caribbean" - So they were fully aware of this during the series............... yet bowled 99 overs in that series.
