The point being you quoted me for calling one of your obsessed a fat fucker.

Surely you can see the irrelevance of the link you sadly posted considering you're in the 2nd Division.

I did, and I was pointing out that Sunderland fans were the fattest in the premier league, the link isn't irrelevant as you are basing you're point on an assumption that the poster is overweight, whilst I am basing mine on a survey conducted by the NHS........I again don't see your point

Not sure I completely agree with the point of view that he took them down so he must be shit

He averaged 1.3 points per game for the 10 games he was in charge of them in the premiership, to put that into perspective, that works out 49 points over a full season of 38 games, or 11th place. I know it doesn't work like that, but it was an obvious improvement from McClaren, of course he ultimately failed to keep them up, but does anyone really think that was Rafa's fault? They were shite long before Rafa took over

He's a quality manager who has won titles all over the world and I'd have him here in a heartbeat

Playing for a draw at Villa was a masterstroke. They should name a stand after him for that. I remember driving home from our Chelsea game and listening to Radio Ncle. The irish bloke and the mag callers were saying they had'nt even tried to win the game. The word Legend was'nt mentioned.

The point being you're not in the same league, so the Premier League is irrelevant, this is obviously very difficult for you to understand you sad fat fuckwit.

Let's not forget things change in a 6 year period, you lot should know that better than most.

Now get back to wor..... oh fuck....

I never said we were, I was just stating a point as you were stating an assumption

Good or bad, it all rests on what happens next season. Newcastle were poor in the 6 pointer games that mattered when they went down, which is worrying for them. But, when they come up it will be with a very different team - one made up of reasonably decent Championship players.

If any team knows how good some players can look in that division, only to look very poor in the top flight, then it is us. (I hear Danny Graham scored a hattrick!). For Benitez to succeed he is going to be needing 6 or 7 real quality players. For that he needs the backing of Ashley, and that is where the problems lie. Not so long ago, they went 3 transfer windows without spending anything, because they looked comfortable in mid-table. The inevitable slump happened and there was some last minute panic spending last January, but in general when things have looked comfortable for Ashley, he has kept the purse strings pretty tight. He wants his money back on his investment and it is clear they need to be back in the Premiership to achieve that.

I think he will be happy to come up, spend on one or two players but will otherwise be looking at making back on what could be a large loss this season, when you consider the reduction in TV and sponsorship money. You can never really predict what Ashely is going to do, but I think it is going to be a long hard season at the bottom of the Premier League (probably with us!) next season.

That told me that even of they finished bottom of the prem next season Rafa would be a "legend" there.

My point was he took them down so failed last year and that he's been gifted every chance to Coast it this year so his real test comes next year and onwards. He disagreed saying he's done wonders to get them into a profit this year and that (I shit you not) " you wouldn't understand" how the relationship is between Rafa and the fans and that he understands what it means to be gaffer there.

So it begs the question, how do you judge his tenure from when he took over?

It's like saying Mick McCarthy was a Sunderland legend cos he took over in the Premier League and oversaw our relegation before bringing us up the following year as Champs, then anything that happened after that didn't matter.

Maybe if he had managed Liverpool, Inter and Real Madrid that would have helped too like, because the only reason Rafa is a legend at Newcastle is because such a high profile manager is in charge of such a shitty little club and they can't believe it.

I think the Newcastle fans love him so much because they've been crying out for some one who seems to have a passion about the club and who actually looks like he has a pedigree.

Chris Hughton did a tremendous job there, but since then they've had Pardew, Carver and McClaren, all of whom were yes men and next to nothing to suggest they had any kind of ability to turn their side in to one capable of doing anything.

Of course he should have done better last season, but I think he's done pretty well so far, managing to get rid of two of their better players for decent wedge and replacing them with good Championship players.

The big test will be whether those same players can either a) make the step up or b) be sold in order to bring other players in and to get the squad in to decent shape.

I hope it all goes tits up though.

You'll need more than a "few additions" - Not one of your squad is good enough for the PL

You could say that about all sides that come up from the Championship, usually you add to the squad and hope you can cling on, then if you do you try and build on it until we are stable, then you dare to kick on maybe get mid table, build and hope to get in to Europe.

Or you could just play for 17th every year.

But the vast majority of your squad have been relegated from the PL. Buying players from the likes of Villa and Blackburn whilst retaining the core of the squad that took you down isn't going to serve you well if you do get promoted. You were one of the worst teams in the league last season, winning a few games at a lower level won't change that.

I think you're understating the influence McClaren had on those players' fate.

We will need to buy players in the Summer, obviously, and I hope we buy a couple of player capable of performing in the Premier LEague in January to be honest. But there's a line on RTG that Newcastle will need a squad overhaul if we're to survive. That wasn't the case last time and we were a worse team then than we are now, and we have a better manager now than we did then.

We'll need to sign a few players, but so do most clubs, most seasons. We've money in the bank from this summer's window and if Benitez says Ashley needs to dip into a reserve then I'm confident that he'll do it.

He won't need to spend hundreds of millions to make us a Premier League team capable of survival.

They should never have gone down with the squad the had. McClaren AND Benitez made a right balls off it. Rafa had more than enough time to turn it around. They were out of the relegation zone, ahead of us and still had to play Norwich, Villa and us.
