BBC World Cup Line up announced

I'm not arsed who it is as long as they are interesting to listen to and knowledgeable. I'd rather people offer some detail / insight into the tactical side of games, or some inforamtion about the players / teams than the rent a quote (Keane) and banter merchant (Richards) types

Kelly Somers and Eilidh Barbour are often the most important members of the BBC team during a tournament. They're both obviously well respected within the England / Scotland camps, tend to get interviews that are a lot more interesting than the usual media trained "yeah no we're taking fings one game at a time at the end of the day" guff.

I must admit I dont know why we need endless hours of talking heads telling us what we already know. Just start 5 minutes before the game so they can go through the teams, then have a single commentator using words sparsely to describe the action/say players names, no need to fill all the empty space, let us observe for ourselves. We don't need to know what the players favorite colour is or what he has for tea etc. Its a pretty simple game, thats why is the worlds most popular sport!

Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott front BBC Sport’s TV coverage throughout the tournament. Broadcasting from BBC Sport’s home in Salford, a brand new, state of the art immersive studio will transport viewers to 16 cities across three host nations – Canada, Mexico and the USA.

They’re joined by an unrivalled line up of football royalty, including former England stars Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Micah Richards, Joe Hart, Paul Robinson, Steph Houghton, Ellen White and Danny Murphy. Representing Scotland are Scott Brown, Rachel Corsie and James McFadden, while World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, Gaël Clichy, César Azpilicueta, Benni McCarthy, Ashley Williams and Thomas Frank add global insight and international edge. Former international referee Darren Cann completes the team, bringing expert analysis from the heart of the game.

World-class commentary comes from Guy Mowbray, Steve Wilson, Steve Bower, Jonathan Pearce, Robyn Cowen, Steven Wyeth and Liam McLeod, with Alan Shearer, Danny Murphy, Stephen Warnock, Efan Ekoku, Martin Keown, Sue Smith, Rachel Corsie, James McFadden and Paul Robinson providing expert co commentary. Alternative BBC Radio 5 Live commentary will also be available on selected BBC TV fixtures whilst an Audio Description service (AD) will be made available for the first time on all TV Live games to assist the blind or partially sighted community.

I don't mind Shearer as a tournament pundit tbh - not afraid to offer his point of view.
Fair enough
I find him tedious with a limited vocabulary
But tbh Im not a fan of pundits on tv at all. When I go to the match I don’t have someone yapping in my ear for 90 minutes telling me what I can see

Yeah, I can take them or leave them too.

But at least with Shearer you get the occasional bit of insight. There is a long list of pundits who have built a career on speaking without actually saying anything - Joe Cole, Danny Murphy, Jamie Redknapp, Micah Richards, Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand etc.

I might be cynical, but the only times I see Shearer offering anything close to insight is on MOTD when a team of researchers have had a few hours to put the ideas together.

There’s no way he watches about six games and picks out tactical talking points in all of them. The reason it’s so obvious is that when he’s on live, be it commentary or in the studio at half time, he consistently fails to muster even a single insight. He just describes what’s happening on the replay on his monitor and tells you it was good or it was bad.

Neville, who I find quite grating, does actually pick up on the tactics and talks about player positioning etc, to his credit. Danny Murphy at least gives it a go.

À lot of ‘respected’ male pundits eg Lynam, Keys have never played football at any level but people listen
Not saying she is good or bad but it isnt and shouldn’t be a gender thing unless it is purely based on pro football
At lot of ex male players( now pundits) never played in à WC tournament eg Micah Richards, but he is regarded as a knowledgeable pundit by many
They aren't pundits. They are presenters. It's a completely different role.

Keys is respected? By whom?
He isn’t a pundit either. He was a presenter….and a mediocre one at that. Dave Jones is far better.

Steph is good at her job. She was also a very good footballer.
