Canny station, terrible name, they reckon they can't change it now because it's so well known, but it never stopped marathon becoming snickers , or opal fruits becoming star burst. Get it changed.

What annoys me is, as they continue not to change the name the presenters very rarely if ever inform guests they are not just broadcasting to the city of Newcastle when they are interviewing guests on the station.

Due to the station name interviewees must think they are only addressing the city of Newcastle and the content/context of the programme is the poorer for it as it becomes centred on such a small area.

Very little attempt is ever made to inform guests they are in fact broadcasting to a much wider audience and to broaden the conversation to reflect this.
Apparently they wanted to change the name to Radio North East but the Tees lot kicked off. Hence 'radio newcastle...radio for the NE'.

The name Radio Newcastle needs changing though. Whatever they do they will never ever be taken seriously by a good number of their listenership if they keep that stupid name.

I refuse to listen to it because of its name.. It is supposed to represent the whole area and should have a name to reflect that..
this but see above

At least 1400 do...
So the percentage of them listening to a Sunderland match on New Year’s Day must be about 3 max given that you can only listen through a subscription via our website and on analog radio. As stated before absolutely pointless.

I hate rugby but wasn’t that Richard gadjee the one involved in that blood scandal thing?
No idea.

BBC Tyne & Wear would sort that. The whole station seems like it’s ran by pensioners.

So no County Durham?

"Gooch heads it... 2-0...... to Burton"

"McGeedy lines up to take the free kick..... he shoots... Newcastle Falcons are losing 3-19"

"Lee Bowyer, it's his birthday today.... Wyke misses a one on one"

I'm at graft so couldn't really hear it properly but did they mention the rightback/centrebacks name they said we were going to sign?

Mind that Michael Hamilton " the scot" presenter seems to like the sound of his own voice ..never lets the expert guests say much .Had a right pop at safc anarl..saying " they blew the game" and "lets see the crowd tomorrow!." Right wum where safc is concerned!

Ha'way then, who's just called Tertel Spert (Chris) saying those on a certain Sunderland message board should calm down

And Michael Hamilton is a whopper, Pryde back in a couple of days though

I thought that Chris had a canny point about remembering how bad we a mess we were in when the " new regime" came in and how quickly things are looking on the way upwards.Still a long way to go but we need to keep behind the players and manager.
You are right about that Hanilton mind ..speaks more than the experts and loves his own expert amlysis of footbal
Oh and nor im not Chris!l.

It was initially planned to call it Radio Bernicia after the medieval kingdom, I think.

Never heard that mate but anything other than Radio Newcastle.

I actually dont mind Radio Newcastle its generally fairly balenced but with that name it will never ever be taking seriously in great areas of its listenership.

The TV BBC North side though, with its openly biased journalism, leaves a lot to be desired.

For me his research is Poor, took him 10 minutes to correct himself after Burton match when he said we could still stay up till being told by a caller that we wete down.
Then after checkatrade match win over Notts County that we couldn't draw Newcastle at any point in the competition and finishing show insisting he was right.
