Barnsley

On a canny run at present. 1-0 up tonight v Stoke and if the results stay the same 1 win away from play offs with game in hand on 6th and 7th.
If they can threaten top 6 no reason why if we go up this year we couldn’t be challenging to go back to Premier by end of 2022/2023 season.

Not quite mate, Barnsley are a really well run club, with a fantastic recruitment policy, contacts everywhere and dont sign someone over a certain age, happy to sell on too.

Its not just a plucky team that went up and are on a good run.

Mick Mac would be a canny manager if you could poach him.

Of course with the right recruitment we could challenge, no reason why not. Sheff Utd did a few years back, I suppose their recruitment policy was spectacularly unique and ground breaking as well.

The point l make is that with the positive changes currently being put in place at SAFC we should at least be equally well run and with more financial clout so should be able to at least match what they have achieved so far in a second season in The Championship.
I’m ever hopeful
Aren’t we all? KTF!

Didn't they get taken over a few years ago? I'd like to see us going down this road of self sufficiency and a good recruitment policy rather than just throwing money around aimlessly like we have in the past.

Don’t be in too much of an hurry to be run like us, next season we’ll be in a relegation battle again, we’ve been like it for a few seasons now. Good season, then a bad one, fortunately this time the good season as come in the championship, due to Wigan being docked points in our shit one.

That not as you just flog everyone?

You seem to have a pretty good routine of signing young lads, including lots from th lower leagues for 6 figure fees

Yeah we’re brilliant at finding players and developing them, unfortunately we regularly develop them into players we can no longer afford, because of the way we play it takes new players 6 months just to get to the fitness levels required to play for us. The first half of next season is a right off. We’ll get a new head coach towards the end of the year, he’ll come in lift everyone and we’ll have a good second half of the season.

Teams that go up from League One tend to do okay the next season. At least they used to although it has tailed off a bit in recent years.

On paper our squad needs absolutely massive improvement though. Aside from McGeady and Sanderson (who isn't ours) I'd want every single player improved on.

We're a million miles away from being at playoff level in the Championship as things stand, IMO.
