Personally I think the best Bancroft can hope for is cover for the Aussie openers,Warner and Burns. In which case would it not be in the Aussies interests to allow him to keep ticking over by continuing to play for Durham ?

Why not Short himself. I know he's best known for his smash it about skills but.
A stint in the CC might well be right up his street, makes him more marketable in England.
He will have been here long enough to adjust to the weather conditions if not batting against the Duke ball.

The obvious thing to do would be to get one of the Aussies he beat out, Peter Handscomb, Joe Burns or Kurtis Patterson.
