Ballard

It's a nonsense rule.

You can tell what is and isn't intentional hair pulls.

I refuse to believe that anyone watching that incident without commentary, as I did, would state confidently that it was an incident with clear violent conduct on display. There was absolutely nothing obvious about what was happening. I was looking for a deliberate knee in the back or elbow before seeing it was a hair pull after half a dozen replays.

It’s two points robbed there and I’m normally one that apportion no blame to refs for results

Absolute bollocks. It's an intentional hair grab. Watch it again without red and white tinted specs on.
He doesn’t look at any point, he is grabbing around the top of his back as he would do with any player. It just happens this one has lasses hair.

The player didn’t even make a fuss about it. Terrible decision.

This is an accident and we had a goal ruled out last week for exactly the same. But no pen for West Ham

Ballard accidentally grabs someone's hair and it's a red.

Football is a joke with all these bollocks rules that get inconsistently applied game to game.

It's nonsense to do it in the current climate, aye. Absolute rank stupidity.
It's been the talking point of the last 2 weeks...and we have actual ref who sent the Man Utd player off for it in the first place!

I'm the first person to defend the players but that was rank stupidity, I wouldn't care but the lad he did it on was absolute dogshit, he was fukin hopeless all game.

The inconsistency around the hair pulling rule is the worst thing about it. They seem to pick and choose who gets bollocked over it (Martinez and Ballard sent off, DCL getting away with it).

I don’t think it’s intentional tbf. He goes to grab his shirt the same way brobbey gets grabbed all game and the hair is in the way.

It’s a red card under the rules, but the rule is a joke.

Come to think of it, Brobbey should grow his hair or wear a wig. We’d have every team down to 8 or 9

Nonsense. How do I post an image?

He has hold of his hair above the lads shirt when he's looking towards the ball but the hair will still be in his line of site.
There's your problem, you're looking at one still image.

Ballard has always grappled with bigger strikers that way, hand on the upper back, usually a handful of the shirt. That's what he's intended to do, the lads long hair has meant he got a bit of both, but it was absolutely not intentional

You do known people's eyes can move and if you know what's there you can grab for it?

You're talking as if he was looking in the complete opposite direction or something, he'll have been able to see out of the corner of his eye but his closeness at the time meant it potentially could have been hidden. The problem is as he grabs the left of the player and is struggling to hold him, he keeps on holding his hair making it much clearer to spot.

Intent? Grabbed his hair ffs, topical issue with the same referee who sent Martinez off. Rank stupidity.

Intent is important tbh. If it wasn’t then pretty much every tackle would be a red (as it is almost always a clash of boot with someone’s leg!)

If he’d poked him in the eye accidentally it wouldn’t have been a red. Pull his hair accidentally it’s a red. It makes no sense to me

I saw it in real time. There are people posting images on here to justify what they think they've seen, why can't I do the same?

It wouldn't have been as blatant if he'd let go sooner, he makes it too obvious and he doesn't let go when it's abundantly obvious he hasn't got hold of his shirt and there's large gap between the players hair and where his shirt could even end up.
