Away Fans at SOL Update

They’ve had multiple opportunities over the last 4 years to sort something out. Net and Perspex screen as proven works around Europe.
Been said on here the club reckon netting takes 16 weeks to order, manufacture and fit.

I completely agree that they could have sorted this in the summer, 100%. But that's gone and we are here now. What are people realistically expecting them to do in the short term until they get the fans moved like?

And it’s been how many weeks since that first Coventry game and countless incidents since? They’ve pushed it under the carpet for years and come up with more meaningless measures that achieve nothing and now sound like they’re going to punish our own fans for the behaviour of away fans by moving them around the stadium because they couldn’t be arsed to sort anything out previously.

They can’t stop people with pyro canisters what are over 100mm big generally but suddenly there’re going to be able to stop people with coins.
The hierarchy are clueless man.

Apparently they will use airport style scanners, but you’re right bud - it won’t work.

I keep posting this, but todays message was to buy the club time with the safety committee. Nowt else.

I’d be amazed if this consultation didn’t start within a week, with the process of moving the PC people back commencing during the World Cup break

I think the incidents are a bit blown out of proportion tbh. It's happened more since covid but it hasn't been a weekly occurance.

I sit over that side aswell so see what happens.

I also don't believe Perspex would be approved, nobody in the UK has it

Just seen the minutes from last weeks fans group meeting.

SD "What be the best way to calm away fans down and stop them kicking off and throwing things?"

RAWA "It's difficult to calm them down completely . Only reasonable option seems to be to either fit a net or move them down to a lower tier. Logistics mean moving them can't happen until the summer so a net would seem like a good interim solution so fans in North can feel safer"

SD "Well we were thinking about just taking their money off them"

Inaudible laughter

RAWA "Please be joking"

SD "Yes, I'm joking. We are going to take their vapes as well".

I'm not sure the parents of the child who was injured would agree its been blown out of proportion.

It's been kicked down the road since Coventry.

I actually think these stupid new measures actually make it more likely something will happen with the away fans, either throwing things or something else. Wouldn't fancy being a steward managing the situation now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cardiff is the last game we see them up in the gods.

Totally agree.

Disagree with that mate. I sit under them and there’s been too many near misses now. It’s only by pure luck the glass bottle during the Coventry game didn’t seriously hurt someone and obviously last week a young child was hurt.

Although it’s not every game, you do see objects coming down on a regular basis but they aren’t reported etc.

It’s also worth remembering that Coventry, Luton, Southend and Pompey; all chucked things pre-covid as well.

Well said. Although it’s actually been kicked down the road since the 4-5 Coventry game.

No chance they’ll pay for airport scanners mind
There's no precedent for it in the UK and its not very common in Europe either tbf, its mainly netting they use.
Don’t think that’s a reason not to approve it.

Hmmmmm... I wonder what the club could do to stop away fans throwing missiles down onto the home fans below????
If only there was an easy answer staring them in the face?

It won't be as simple as 30 second approval like, things like this will take time to implemented. Agreement, manufacturing and fitting will take months I imagine.

The away fans will be moving soon and that will fix the issue.

Another one who hasn't read the statement.

Some knackers will see this as a challenge to sneak stuff in no doubt
Socks full of missiles.

Imagine it'll be easy to sneak stuff in if you want to be a ****, it'll just shit on all the normal people and probably need loads of extra staff

Yep and could of been done months/years ago but the club kicked it down the road until theyve come to a point where the solution is to punish our own fans and give away fans better seats in our own ground.
