Australia v India - 3rd test, Perth

Australia looking in control again. India 161 all out, Australia currently 117/0 from 15 overs.

What the hell has happened to India? A whitewash against England was understandable, but against Australia in their current state?

I don't think the players are interested in 5 days hard work for little money in relation to a game of hit and giggle for mega bucks.

The decline in the standard of India test cricket should serve as a warning to the ICC of promoting too much T20 rubbish.

good post.

If I were an Indian batsman I couldnt give two hoots about test cricket, I would be keeping myself fresh for the IPL where the money is obscene.

For the record, as previously alluded to, the IPL is the best cricket tournament in the world bar none in terms of standard of cricket, far outstripping any international games

The Indians just lack any team spirit or fight it seems recently in Test cricket, too many 'superstars' on their way out and not enough talent coming through. Watching the IPL in a few years will be like the cricket equivalent of the Sky Sports Masters footy, just a load of fat blobs trying to re-live their youth

rubbish. Do the masters player obscene amounts of money?

IMHO it's purely because it's still a fairly new thing, there's a lot of cash to be made for not much work so a lot of cricketers are wanting to cash in while they can. Nothing wrong with that, except that, as you say, cricketers from certain countries like India and Sri Lanka are making it a priority to play in it rather than represent their countries at the highest level.

The novelty will wear off soon and the IPL will become the equivalent of Masters 5 a side where once top players go for a big pay day before they reach for the pipe and slippers.

Aye thats why it's shown on Eurosport or ITV 4

The format is too long, the players are just playing for cash and nothing else, it's obvious in every game you watch. By the time the final came last time it hardly seemed like anyone cared who won. If you like it fair enough, not my cup of tea, bring me Test cricket anyday.

Agreed.

I don't even think I've ever sat down and watched a full match of the IPL. 90% of the time I don't even know it's on, and haven't the crowds been dwindling in the last couple of years? It would be a decent tournament if it was played over 2 or 3 weeks but it takes forever to complete, no one cares about the group stages and there's too much money involved.

The international players are quite clearly only motivated by the money and while there's plenty of big names the standard really isn't that good. Hopefully it'll be gone sooner rather than later.

Same as the summer for me. Thought we were going to have a humb dinger of a series, but we battered them. The Aussies have done the same.

How shit are the Indians? They should stick to 'hit n giggle' cricket and leave the test match arena to the big boys. EB take note.

I've got to say, fair play to the Aussies for the way they've approached the series and taught the Indians the lesson in real cricket they deserve for their attitude towards the test game. Pity they couldn't have done it next winter to give them a false sense of security heading into the Ashes.

Hopefully a few more teams can dish out some thrashings to the Indians in the near future to try and convince them to take the test game seriously while they slide down the rankings.

Unreal how bad the Indian's look, even class acts like Ghambir and Tendulkar look shocking at the moment. Big changes needed there I think - Dhoni is banned for the last test so could be an opportunity to blood a new captain, not sure who though, probably Sehwag.
