Australia v England, 3rd Test, 16th December , 23.30

Crawley needs 30 runs this innings or he becomes the 1st opener in test history to not score 3,000 runs from 100 innings

Stokes is the only one threatening to hang around in this series. Get him up up up the order
Probably best he bats 3 next test, maybe even for the rest of his career if he pulls his bowling back a bit more.

Can slot Bethell in at 6 or 7 then
Crawley will get soon unless he starts to move his feet a bit more... particularly his front foot.
Still needs 21 runs to avoid a new record
Can we poach the Aussies team fielding coach

Career defining innings for a few lads this. Crawley fighting for his future (or at least should be) and needs a ton, Root to seeking to cement his legacy as genuine all time great (this needs to be Lara or Laxman like chasing down the big total), Brook to show he’s capable of doing something telling for the first time this series and to announce himself in Ashes cricket properly, Smith fighting for his place in the side and Stokes to rescue his tenure as England captain.

I predict none of the above will happen aside from Crawley cementing his place in the side with uncharacteristically nuggety 45. Another 40 tests in the bag.

Should be the end of Pope
How many times have we said that...might actually be true this time.

Iirc there's only 1 top order English batsman to have had a worse average against Australia from as many innings.
Ollie Pope's test career against the top 4
44 tests, 4 100's @ 31, bumped up by a 135* - record against Australia, India, NZ and South Africa

his footwork against lyon is better, so he might get there

These are the exact moments in the game where we’ve thrown it away previously. Looking comfortable, batting assertively without stupidity and accumulating runs. This has to be the occasion where we actually press it home. No good batting with serenity for an hour or two. This has to be the rest of the day to give a punchers chance.

Can’t believe ive been punished for going to Brighton by sleeping through popes epic double figure score.

101-1 session, repeat that and at least we'd go to day 5 with the hope that 2 big partnerships will get the job done.
Whisper it....not many times I've seen Crawley bat as well as that

That’s about a good a session as we’ve had all series. To be fair to Pope, it was excellent bowling and superb fielding. He didn’t throw it away.

Crawley and Root have been excellent. Perfect balance between attack and defence, very few see ball hit ball strokes, positive running, good intent. We need exactly the same session from them after tea. 220-2 at the end of the day gives half a chance. If we’re 4 or 5 down at the close of play it’s done and dusted.
