Attendance Thread - Luton

Absolutely ridiculous how many season ticket holders weren't there tonight.
A lot from outside the area would have travelled on Saturday when it did look a 40,000 plus crowd. Expected this tonight. It looked the smallest away following since League 1
It's weird that's for sure.

Best and most likeable team we've had in ages, thought we'd be close to selling games out.
Sell out every game in Prem if we go up

They can't be arse, simple as that.

Every time we have these threads we hear everything from 'I've got to get up for work at 7', 'it's cold' to 'I drive midweeks and wessington way annoys me'.

Plenty are honest and just say they couldn't be arsed though.
Load of shite excuses people drum up, I do a 110 mile round trip with work at 6am, just walked in the house now with diversions and traffic etc but it’s the norm

I think the home support this season has been pretty woeful considering how well we’re actually doing

You were slow driving back.

In keeping with, actually better, than our historic attendances at this level.
We won’t man. Didn’t happen under Keane or Bruce when we had decent spells.

48k is just too big to regularly fill

It certainly is with consistently mediocre / poor football. As it would be for most clubs in the land.

Nigh on every other historically big club has had something to keep them enticed for a long time. European football, top six finish, the odd trophy.

Sunderland haven’t. Yet our numbers remain excellent. Don’t know why some of our own don’t acknowledge that

Incredible support mate. Not sure ord have bothered and understand those who will a while away not bothering.

If nowt else the bairn was delighted to get the chance to wave one of the flags pre match that were dotted on our seats in SEC. There were noticeable gaps in the ground mind.

I'm absolutely knackered but that's on me, was fixing the car til 11:30 last night after getting in and up at 5:30 this morning to get down to London.

Looks about right from my vantage point in the South Stand upper. Was packed around me once everybody had got in from the shambolic queues outside again, but the gaps at the front of the North Stand and front of the corners at the ends of the East were more noticeable and are usually full on a weekend.
Need to bring away fans down to lower bowl

I was against it for years but have changed my mind now. But if we do it has to be the same approach as Stoke and Boro - so south east corner which would go slightly into both the East and South Stands. And either keep the North Upper free of season ticket sales, or make it clear to new season card holders who buy up there, that in the event of a big cup allocation they will need to move.

I don’t think the old away end would be viable anymore with the Sheepfolds transformation, would be insane to give that to away fans when it’s going to be a much improved matchday experience for home fans and will mean less fans are approaching the ground from the Wear Bridge and coming out at the SEC area. Would also be stupid to break up the South Stand and SWC when there’s potential there.

Football was not as popular then.
Agree crowds are way better now than under Keane and Bruce, they are better than the last few years in PL aswell as we are not topping the crowds up with school freebies. We have around 34k season ticket holders in Championship and 1,500 Corporate, in PL Corporate will be sold out 2,500. We would have to give away clubs at least 3,000 tickets. Id expect to comfortably sell around 38k season tickets leaving 3-4k on general sale as is the requirement for match by match tickets.
