Might be a stupid question but why hasn’t he taken the Atherton name, and where does de Caires come from?
It's his mother/Atherton's wife's name, maybe he was born before they were married?
No, Mike felt that there would be media pressure on his son if he retained his father's name so adopted his mother's name. Cricket should be in the son's genes as his maternal grandfather was also a West Indies test cricketer. Mother is of fair complexion.
