FWIW Australia haven't lost an Ashes series after winning at the Gabba since 1954. Should we just give up now?

Clearly though there must be something about the place that does it for the Aussies. Otherwise they would have lost there more regularly. Its a bit like SAFC having the Indian sign over Man City on Wearside in recent years.

Pure psychology. Should be no reason a good enough team can't go there and beat them.

Not sure about that mind. There are very few bouncy, really fast pitches in world cricket now and, drop in pitch or not, that pitch was fast and bouncy. The Aussies are more used to batting on this type of surface than most other teams, hence the fact that they always play the first test there; they know they will probably get a decent start.

The Aussies also have the fastest bowler in the world in their team right now. Anyone who watched the one day stuff against India recently will have seen a man transformed, with what looks like a slightly straighter run up and slightly higher action. He was lightening quick on dry slow pitches, and also very accurate.

Johnson looks like he has become the bowler he always threatened to be, and if he and Harris stay fit and on the money we are rank outsiders to retain the ashes, as most of our batsmen are getting out to order.

All good points, but they were unbeaten there even when their fastest bowlers were McDermott and Merv Hughes, who were probably around low to mid 80s. SAffers, Pakistan and England have brought some very fast bowlers to the Gabba and not won.

If Johnson can look this good after his shocker in 2011 begs the question how good Finn would be if we actually invested in quicks.
