Ashes 5th test - Sydney

Its the spine of the team who have let us down. The established players who have been there and done it before. Cook, Trott, Bell, Pieterson, Swann and Anderson have all been way below par. That's more than half the side. One went home very early due to stress and another thew in the towel. The other 4 have been so far below their best its untrue. Carberry and Root have been out of their depth partly due to not being supported by the senior pros.

You need your senior players to perform and they haven't.

fielding has been awful all series anarl, you can't keep dropping chances. we've needed to create 13-14 chances to take 10 wickets, like giving them a few extra batsmen per innings.

Cant believe i got stick for saying anderson is average outside of england

And on the morning of the 5th Test, England get an LBW.

mad statistic they showed earlier, shane watson, biggest LBW candidate in world cricket, and we've bowled barely 1 ball every 3 overs at him that would go on to hit the stumps, 18 out of 320 odd [hope i haven't had a maths malfunction there ]

Something like that, it was around 5% of the total balls in the series. Bouncy pitches and poor bowling.

Anyway. If you insert you need minimum 3 down at lunch to claim the session and we've got 4. Happy days. Now we're into the the 'keeper and the bowlers which means we shou... ah balls.

Typical isnt it?

I stand by the original post like, hes cannon fodder if its not swinigng

this was always true of anderson and broad up until a year or two back. they have proven themselves time and again recently, don't be fooled by one bad series, if it wasn't for the fact that everyone in the side is having a dreadful tour at the same time it would not really be an issue.

Don't get that far ahead, haven't you watched any of the series?? (I'm talking about the assumption that Smith and Bailey won't be about for long)

This.

"Durham, our county champions, need to get used to life without Ben Stokes. They won't be seeing much of him next summer - just one game to get him into some form and then that's it."

Changed his tune since he made his debut, just goes to show how much he's impressed/surprised everyone

i think borthwick may be a bigger miss tbh, took us ages to settle down a number 3. arshad burst onto the scene looking capable of possibly replacing stokes early doors obviously. whilst we have buckley and pringle coming in it will be harder setting a decent batting order...

stoneman, jennings, ? rami singh, richardson, collingwood, mustard, arshad, wood, pringle/buckley, rushworth, onions

going from 2 good bowlers in the top 6 to none makes our tail a fair bit bigger, though arshad, wood, pringle can all bat pretty well, not so sure about buckley.

brittle top order too

EDIT: obviously this is assuming borthwick nails a place with england - should see more lions action at least though, we may be losing wood a fair bit too, hopefully harrison can step up.

will be a long hard fight against relegation possibly
