Article about SAFC from Spain

Hello there,

(apologies in advance if this is not the right place for this issue, and please forward me to the thread/area where I could write about this)

my name is Luis and I am a Spaniard living in London. While I have a day job in software dev, I write articles as a side project.

I've contacted the well-known Spanish printed magazine 'Panenka', that focuses on the emotional side of football, to write an article about SAFC. I also plan to release it online in English.
I have been interested in the club for years, and I will try to make justice to the impressive supporters community that doesn't fail, weekend after weekend, to support the team with a really high average attendance in the Stadium of Light, even in the hardest moments.

I'll spend a weekend in the city, attend a match (the Blackpool one is a little tight, probably the one with Southend, to give myself time to prepare the article) and see by myself what's going on in there.

So far I have arranged an interview with Rob Mason, probably you all know him, to get insights about the history of the club and a better understanding about how come SAFC has such a strong football love behind.

If you feel like helping me out with telling me any fan I should get in touch with, any recommendations to experience properly being a Mackem for a day, or just want to grab a beer during my visit, please do reach me out.

Many thanks!

Great to hear. I suggest you try to meet George Forster from SAFC Supporters Association, its a short walk from the stadium.

George is a lovely fellow, he is in his 90's now and has been a Sunderland fan all his life. He has great stories to tell and is an absolute gent. He is extremely knowledgeable on all things Sunderland and a massive lads fan.

It would be a great privelege to spend some time chatting to him about football in general and Sunderland in particular.

Te puedo contar todo en castellano desde el punto de vista de un aficionado sufrido en Madrid que conoce muy bien a La liga

Two tips for writing an article about SAFC that will be a sure fire winner.

1. Mention the fact we are all f***ing heroes for sticking by a club that has served up shite played by over paid wankers whilst literally taking the piss out of us for years until Don and Charlie rode in.

2. Remind the world despite our current ranking within the English leagues the scruffy twats with the airport still haven’t beaten us for over 7 years.

Good to hear. I hope you get to see us in Europe sometime soon.

Might want to aim for the Southend and miss the blackpool game as that could be postponed due to international call ups, the club have just posed about it. Might be worth popping into the club museum before the game, also try reaching out to the branches, get a mix of local branches and those not so close (america/Australia)

Wow, thanks a lot for the overwhelming response!

Thank you for the links provided and the suggestions, I'll check all of them.
I believe there is some internal joke about hanging out with @hank williams, but I want my mind fresh to experience the weekend and use it for the article :)

I'll definitely try to contact the Supporters Association or any branches (I believe there is one in London). And contacting the Wise Men Say guys and the rest sounds like a really good idea.

Sorry for the "reach me out" thing. English is obviously not my mother tongue, so some words might sound strange. But don't worry, I'll rely on a proofreader for the English version of the article.

If someone feels like meeting in person when I am in Sunderland, or helping me outside this thread, my email address is luisfer at lisella eu.

Again, thanks a lot! Now, let's smash Coventry City!

Buena suerte!

 it was mental mind. Fans literally climbing street light columns and diving off. Everyone pissed, chants being fired off left right and centre from all over London. Drink aisles in shops looking like a scene from 28 days later.
One of the greatest days of all time, Cup Final Eve in Covent Garden
Awesome
