Anyone not wanting Europe?

I think everyone will have a bit of “ it’s probably too soon and it’ll hurt us playing every 4/5 days and need a bigger squad” but fuck me we might not get a chance again, it’s all memories and I’ll be going anywhere with my boy if we get there that’s for sure, you only live once lads and lasses let’s make the most of it!

The big problem is that clubs in Europe have stricter spending limits (70%) than clubs outside of it (85%). So we could finish 9th and spend more on strengthening the team, or finish 8th and end up not being able to spend as much because of the European rule. Which is fine if you're in the Champions league becuase you get a f***ing fortune. But the amount you get in the conference league isn't enough to compensate for the rule - apparently.
TL;DR skip to last paragraph.

This is correct but I don't think we're near our 70% limit at the moment. Going from 85% down to 70% would mean £15m less spend per £100m revenue so if we had £200m revenue then it's £30m less spend at £140m instead of £170m.

If we were already pushing the limit at 85% and then suddenly go down to 70% then it makes things harder. However in the Premier League, you are allowed to go over it with up to a 30% buffer (Luxury Tax) up to 100%. There is a levy payment for doing this which is a percentage of the overspend. You also don't get the % exceeded back the next season as it needs to be rebuilt so next season would only have the basic SCR limit+20%.

In the Premier League, if a team is under the basic SCR for a season they get 10% back as it's a 3 year rolling thing so 30% overspend in season 1 would take 3 seasons to recover. This sounds canny as it allows a team with rich owners willing to invest to do it and pay the penalties if money is no object. So a team not in Europe could spend 115% one season in the hope if gives them a boost up the table.

However, UEFA is different from what I can see as it's instant fines for excedding SCR as there's no 'luxury tax' buffer. It's fines at first depending on the breach and it's what happened to Chelsea and Villa and they got fined £millions. It also comes with stipulations about doing it again as it will mean restrictions on players allowed in the competition. I think Villa may be in trouble again and get another fine and the mags are likely to be fined.

As the Champions League is the big money then Villa getting into CL this season has probably saved them harsher penalties in future I reckon. If they'd got Conference or even Europa League again then they may well have been facing harsher UEFA punishment.

Long story short, I think the owners have the sense to stay within the SCR limits. Longer term they would know about the issues with a 70% limit anyway if they had ambitions of Europe. It's just it may have come a season early as this season's aim would have been to survive and then maybe next push for a Europe. It's just that we've just skipped the survive season thanks to the improvements across the club and long may it continue so let's get carried away man! 😎

Can't believe I'm asking this but there's a few lads in work this morning saying we shouldn't be looking to win on Sunday as if we qualify for europe it all but guarentees relegation next year...

Just wondering if anyone shares the same opinion? For me it's a no brainer, opportunities like this don't come around often and we should be snapping the hands off it.

Get back to making music sucka !!!

To be honest we don’t even try in the League Cup yet I would rather see us play in the League Cup Final at Wembley (as I did in 1985 and 2014) than just watch us playing the Euro Mickey Mouse Conference on telly.

I know this is just a tad off topic, but just think, if the mags had got their six easy points off us, they'd be where Bournemouth are now and challenging for a Champions league place. So we have fettled them, good and proper.

Remember when people didn’t want promotion last season as the squad wasn’t good enough ?

I absolutely want European football next season I’m 50 in September and never seen it and without being big headed being in the conference league there’s every chance we could go far or win it.

Oh and deluded world of ready to go, stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

It will be amazing to see the lads in Europe, first time in my life.
My only concern is squad cost ratio which would be restricted to 70% of turnover compared to 85% if we don't qualify.
I think another season of building would be ideal considering we have just been promoted.
Breaking that 70% limit only results in a fine from UEFA.

I say just spend 85% regardless and have a f***ing class time of it. 8-)

I've just took each game as it comes and never looked further forwards than that.
I hope we get to europe and I'm certain that KLD will do what he can within the financial restrictions we face to compete.

Don’t understand one person saying no. It’s long overdue and if we’ve got an ounce of ambition as a club it’s what we need to be striving for.
As one of the generation who had to wait for Richardson’s goal to finally beat that lot at home, I m well up for seeing us in Europe before I’m 47. As a club we need it. League 1 to Europe is one hell of a turn around. We can beat Chelsea. Just got to go for it

I’ve posted about not being bothered about Europe before.

No we have a chance , I’ve been completely talking shite and I’m losing it over possibly getting in.

Hope we get there. It would be the icing on a superb 25/26 cake.

But…..Not the end of the world if we don’t. It’s still been great.

Surely, if we do, it will attract a different class of signing than if we don’t.
PLUS, any players that MIGHT be wavering in the transfer window could just be swayed to give staying at the club a little longer.

I trust the club and the scouting/recruitment side to have irons in the fire already about additions to our squad next season, to make any European jaunt ‘manageable’.

It’s batshit crazy not to want SAFC playing in a European tournament.

53 years and waiting and on the verge of getting it and some don’t want it 😂 absolutely bizarre.

With a good summer transfer window to bulk the squad with quality over quantity, we can and will compete on all fronts next season.

Let’s beat Chelsea first and see where the cards fall 🙏

Be some story that. A team that came up from the play-offs getting European football the following season through a league position.

And I know the conference league gets mocked but winning it guarantees a team a place in the Europa league group stages the following season.
