Anyone not wanting Europe?

I want us to qualify but if we don’t I’ll console myself with the idea it wound gave affected us in the league.

Has any team ever qualified for Europe through the league and been relegated the season after due to the fixture congestion?

Pretty sure Wigan got relegated not long after winning the FA cup but they were pretty shit anyways weren't they ?

Forest, palace , spurs all recently played poorly in the league the season they were in Europe but not relegated

It's definitely an issue. Football at the highest level is won and lost on the finest margins - small percentages.

Having less fixtures means more time to rest and recover. If for example Man City weren't in Europe and they fielded reserve teams in the domestic cups then they would walk the league.

The extra fixtures is definitely an issue for squad management / fitness / injuries etc. We have a good manager and setup though, so I'd be happy enough for us to have a bash at it. If our league form dips , I don't even care as long as it doesn't result in relegation.
Agree with the small %s thing and that one team playing twice a week will accrue injuries and fatigue. It’s an issue but if you think of it in terms of having two teams as opposed to the same team playing twice a week I think it’s doable.

Don’t agree Man City would walk the league with just the Prem to focus on. What about the other teams who manage to compete with Man City and also have European football? Newcastle moaned on that once they were out of Europe they’d be mint but they haven’t been.

How anyone can get excited about playing in the conference league is beyond me. I’ve just looked at last years league and half the teams are an absolutely mystery. If it’s a couple of nights on the piss with your mates then fair enough but as a sporting event , no thanks .
Europa league seems to be a lot higher standard of opposition and it would be a great experience to pit ourselves against those teams although I do believe it would have a big effect on our league form and I hate playing Sundays .

Palace fans are going to a European cup final next week in Germany...what will we be doing? Tell me you aren't at least a little bit envious?

Mixed blessing innit.

It'd help with recruitment but we'd also have to add a few more bodies to the squad to allow for the extra games. The Europa Conference is barely worth winning, but it'll be a few great days away for a fanbase that have more than earned it.

Already delighted with the season, anything else is a cherry on top. Top 10 and finishing above the mags would be incredible.
Barely worth winning? Tell that to west ham or crystal palace fans .

Would be one of the biggest days in our history

Can't believe I'm asking this but there's a few lads in work this morning saying we shouldn't be looking to win on Sunday as if we qualify for europe it all but guarentees relegation next year...

Just wondering if anyone shares the same opinion? For me it's a no brainer, opportunities like this don't come around often and we should be snapping the hands off it.
It’s mental, no doubt the same ones who didn’t want us promoted yet 🤦🏻‍♂️

Priority is finishing above the mags then Europe. If we get Europe then we need to play a complete second string in the LC and then FA cup if we are still in Europe.Id be happy drawing v Chelsea if it's enough to finish above them.Winning then not getting Europe now is going to feel a bit of a what might have been.

How anyone can't be excited about following the lads across Europe is beyond me. We've never experienced it, also I can guarantee that night West Ham won it is the best night the majority of their fans have ever had following their club.

You'd rather draw than win?
What the holy fuck am I reading!!!!!!!!!

I think they would walk the league with only league fixtures to focus on. Newcastle have a load of issues with Howe and players underperforming. Plus when the below par performances start it can be tough to get out of.

It's almost certain that they would have finished higher in the league without being in any European comps though (Mags).

I’m not sure about other teams, but Wigan got relegated the same season they won the cup so we’re in Europe and the championship same season.

The prize money says otherwise, the money for Europa and Confrence league are very similar.

If you win the final, the Conference league pays approx 1 million euros more than the Europa to make it as an incentive to win it. (Granted the league values are slightly less)

Ipswich played in Uefa Cup 2001/2002 and went down. Since then nobody has been relegated.

Few teams drop off a little. The Mags have used it as a bedrock of their excuses for not performing this season.

Palace are gonna finish where they finish nearly every year, lower mid-table. Forest have flirted with relegation - but they were already doing that before European football started this season, they hardly seem correlated.

On the flip side, Aston Villa got to the final of the Europa and are gonna finish 4th/5th. Arsenal got further than they ever have in CL and are probably gonna win the league.

It can have an impact but worth it.

Priority is finishing as high as we can in the table. Then deal with what is next...

I’ve been chatting about this with a friend — it’s a good debate.
Europe would boost the club’s reputation, but it could stretch our squad too much and risk a relegation battle with all the extra games. Plenty for the club to think about.

think playing in champs league rather than conference is different kettle of fish, lot of teams in conference league are no better than decent championship teams.

If we qualify for either it’ll be more attraction for signings over the summer, extra revenue for PSR and it could also help persuade players to stay.

All this talk of “it would mean nailed-on relegation next season” is a load of tosh. It’s the same negativity we heard when everyone had us finishing dead last this season.

What's the crack with financial fair play? I know it's been highlighted that the Mags will be in a better position re spending position if they don't qualify due to having to fall in line with Europe (stricter) and the prize money being so small.
