Anyone not wanting Europe?

Can't believe I'm asking this but there's a few lads in work this morning saying we shouldn't be looking to win on Sunday as if we qualify for europe it all but guarentees relegation next year...

Just wondering if anyone shares the same opinion? For me it's a no brainer, opportunities like this don't come around often and we should be snapping the hands off it.

I think it puts us on the relegation fight … which is usually 6-7 clubs for a long part of the season

Just look at Palace, Forest, Newcastle to see the problem… all 3 clubs would be at least 10 points probably more better off but for being in Europe.

Our squad won’t be big enough to avoid it I fear …. But it certainly does not mean relegation

I'm nervous about the extra financial restrictions which I think most of us are slightly .

I also have faith in our owners to find a plan to cope
These financial restrictions.
After last summer the club may have no intention of going anywhere near them imo.

Its a ceiling on your spending which might mean nowt.

Getting it would be brilliant, but we have to have a plan if we do. I'm wary of second season syndrome and losing a few key players. If you could guarantee me this squad plus a few additions I'd say bring it on.

It would open up more doors in terms of player recruitment, but what's this about financial restrictions?

Heart says yes.

Head says we don’t remotely have the squad depth and it’d be an absolute killer for us in the league, as it has been for numerous teams over the past few seasons who’ve ended up in relegation battles.
We lost a third of our first team squad for two months, plus injuries and suspensions.

We could be in a relegation battle next season even without Europe.

You can’t predict what will happen, nor might you ever get the chance again. You have to take it when it comes

3 out of 5 Conference League finals have had an English club in them (and if Palace win that's 3 that have won it) and none of them were relegated.

We had a record number of English clubs in Europe this season and despite having the 2 strongest newly promoted sides in years, none of them got relegated (barring some miracle that sees Spurs go down).

Your friends are clueless pessimists.

It all but guarantees nothing of the sort.
If we win then Conference looks likely given the permutations.

100% this.

I'm sure some posters in here didn't want us promoted last season as we'd get mullered every week.

Yeah, seeing us in European competition for the first time in my 44 year life, with the opportunity to travel overseas and party along with loads of other lads fans sounds awful.

I think most of us have been around long enough to understand that you have to grab these opportunities with both hands and enjoy them while you can.

I remember similar concerns after being promoted with people thinking it was a year early - complete bollocks

I would hazard a guess these lads would be also saying play the reserves in the F.A cup?

The Mags probably won't...as it would put an end to their Mackem in Milan ditty.

I've just applied for a new passport, so will have loads of pages ready for all the stamps and visas and would be a shame not to use them!
