I honestly don't know anybody who thinks Adam Johnson was responsible for spoiling Christmas because he scored the winner in the derby just before Christmas.
Similar to the claims of being devastated at being relegated "by Sunderland". If anything that relegation brought a massive feel good factor to the place and filled people with optimism and hope once Benitez said he was gonna stick around, as evidenced by 50k+ crowds just about every home game in the championship.
:lol: Relegation never gave you a bit of optimism, but Rafa sticking around did. Don't fill us with shit man, I doubt for one minute you lot thought great we've been relegated but Rafa is sticking around
On the 12th May you woke up and felt like shit because we had sealed your fate and you weren't sure how Rafa was going to react. To say anything different is just wiping bad news from your memory. Yes it turned out well for you, however you may have yourself fooled but not us

The shittest thing about it all is, like the mags, the best we can ever hope for is making up the numbers in the top flight.
Sadly you are so right...

The dream of winning a PL (much less the CL) is not even a fantasy, it’s delusional...

They were singing 'six in row, six in a row, now the smb are two leagues below' at Leicester. Maybe they are over it.
Just thinking about chickens, counting and other such things...
Furthermore, “There but for the grace of god go I”

Bit daft to assume you know what a stranger on the internet thinks.
Being in the bottom 3 for the majority of the season I felt like it was just waiting for the coup de grace. Benitez came in and I felt like we had a better chance of staying up but even the results under Benitez at Southampton, Norwich and Villa it seemed inevitable. Expected nothing from trips to Anfield and home games against Man City and Spurs. It felt inevitable for a long time, certainly didn't wake up gutted the next day. The fact that Sunderland beating Everton confirmed it didn't and doesn't really bother me that much either. The season is 38 games and we done enough over the previous 37 games to put us in that mess that one victory for Sunderland didn't make that much difference to me personally.
Maybe there's other Newcastle fans feel differently but among the ones i speak to in my circle of friends, work colleagues, family members, nobody took Sunderland beating Everton that badly and don't seem that bothered that the relegation even happened after a pair of quite enjoyable seasons since.

The facts are that Benitez didn't confirm his stay till a couple of weeks after, so to say that you were full of optimism following relegation, is quite frankly wiping it away from your memory banks. Inevitability or not, me as a passionate avid football fan, wouldn't have wanted to experience that night and the following days if indeed the shoe was on the other foot. It isn't about "strangers on the internet", its about pride and passion

That's fine. I got over it pretty quickly tbh, having been resigned to it long before.
