But he was walking around gobbing off .

Same in reverse in Ashington and Ellington, but they’re still b&w majorities, as Peterlee is for us.

There may be now, but I remember going to derbies at both grounds, picking up at Peterlee, and the Sunderland buses 'round here were chocker, you'd see the odd mag at a bus stop. I'm not from Peterlee by the way.

There were always mags in East Durham, before the days of Keegan, but not many at all.

As far as I can tell, a lot of the bairns growing up 'round here aren't that interested in football and they don't have families who went to matches, and so what you'll find is when they get to about 16 they'll get bought a mag top but probably won't ever go to a match.

And, there a lot of people moving in 'round here from other parts of the country and so they don't have families to guide them. Most of the bairns of these families will pick Newcastle as their team.

If the new owners deliver any level of success, there's surely going to come a point where the majority of younger NUFC fans never make it to the ground, with no access to buying tickets.

I'm not originally from the North East, so the attendance trophy is lost on me, given how geographically isolated our area is from the rest of the country.

Perhaps partisan attitude kills the idea, but in the spirit of the thread, if there are are several contested "strongholds", you'd think Sunderland would try and actively market to the next generation of fans in those areas.

My lad and I are season card holders for SAFC as a means of seeing some live football together - I'd like to think he won't go over to the mags when he's older but guess peer pressure is the main battle, as I've no links to Sunderland.

Most of the lads I go with have been going since the mid 70’s. Much more organised now, but Perelee and surrounding areas I would say 70/30 red and white.
