Any Sunderland strongholds left ?

The discussion would be over if both clubs gave details of the post codes of their season ticket holders. Having said that they don't even give out the exact number of season ticket holders never mind a breakdown of where they are from.

Strange cos ive literally just walked up Houghton town centre and saw exactly the opposite !! Several lads and lasses wearing Sunderland shirts....

Houghton always has and always will be a proper Sunderland stronghold. There are some mags, that’s inevitable when people move about the region and kids follow their parents team, but in terms of attending and proper supporters it’s Sunderland daft.

Thinks bad when no we’re apart from club shop sells tops. Can buy mag tops any were but no we’re sells Sunderland tops so young kids all seem to be going out in the head choppers tops

This, see loads of flags at the matches with Houghton and/or DH4 on them.

I think what all this tells us is that Sunderland fans are more tolerant of others. I know there are lots of SAFC fans in Gateshead and north of the Tyne, but most wouldn't walk around wearing SAFC tops because of the implicit threat of violence from the local Mag population.

Also, for Sunderland fans, the club shirt is generally not the first port of call for everyday casual wear, but it seems to be for the Mags. If it's not a replica shirt, it's some other form of NUFC branded clobber for them - it just seems that they can't exist without identifying themselves with the club!
