I was at Esh Winning v Marsden and as a neutral was astounded by what went on.
Esh got 259 for about 5 declared after 42 overs. Took Marsden 3 hours to bowl them (14 overs / hour).
Marsden ended 235 for 5. Esh slowed game down in last hour and only bowled 12 overs.
Apparently game ends at 7.30pm no matter how many overs bowled. Absolutely sackless and stupid rules.
At end of 1st innings Esh going off it about Marsden over rate. At end of game Marsden going off it about Esh's over rate.
How can it be you've watched a game all day and slow over rates stop a positive result. Baffling that new league was supposed to drive progress and in reality its more negative than ever.
I agree plenty runs but you reapi what you sew there is plenty twisting about draws in our league but it's cricket for proper cricket people
Saw 2 games today:
Annfield Plain U13's defeated South North U13's to go joint top of their league. Sacriston and Shotley Bridge have a game in hand though.
Annfield Plain Academy side defeated 2nd in the table Fenham CC. Great game. The Plain side was made up entirely of players from the U13 to U18 sides.
Didnt know that.Fenham are a great story in themselves, most of their side hasn't played a proper game until two months ago.
Didnt know that.
All of the players looked to be of Pakistani origin and until the young U15 came into bat number 11 none of them had worn a helmet when batting. They even had to share the gear between them. Technically they werent great but there were a couple of them had a real eye for the ball and smacked it all around the park. Their enthusiasm was palpable.
The game was what cricket was all about. The young Annfield Plain side were absolutely delighted to win. The cameraderie with them when they took the final wicket was a credit to the club.
Great afternoon.
