However as with any sport if a particularly team wins a lot more games than they lose you would expect by very nature for praise to outweigh criticism however it’s the complete opposite on here

Common trait in life not just sport. When they accomplish the task they're just doing their job, for which they're obscenely well paid in this instance, when they fall short they get criticised. Can't understand why posters feel they have the right to belittle those critics.They're harmless spur of the moment comments

No,I said it was a trait I e. a general characterization of a population to praise rather than blame. I never referenced myself. Sorry, Pretty simple concept to accept I'd have thought.
 
What about going all 90s and packing the batting to avoid defeat with the pink ball.

Atkinson/Carse
Tongue

Above wont happen but I would look to bring Tongue in for this test as he gets more sideways movement than most of the other bowlers.

You may have a point there you had an England football manager get us to two major finals who people constantly slated.

You had a Sunderland manager who got to the play off position super early last season that when things dropped off slightly amazingly some wanted sacked.

Maybe I have a different perception of supporting a team.

Actually supporting the team!

Especially my own country.

Yes,paradoxically,the more fervent the supporter, the more irrational their response to adversity. It's their way of expressing their frustration and disappointment. There's no way their comments should be taken seriously.

What about all the negativity and sly digs before a series or tournament starts?

So those that lose their heads and meltdown are just doing so because they are more passionate/care more?
 
I love the attacking style of cricket we play and I’ve said it loads. We wouldn’t have been able to chase down some of the totals we have in various games had we not played that way. I don’t want us to throw everything out the window and abandon it.

I would like to see us play situations better though. At 100-1 on a pitch that was only going to get better, there had to be someone with the cricketing sense to read the game. I actually think Stokes tried to do that a little bit in both innings but missed a straight one from Starc in the first innings and got a good ball second innings.

Where it makes you want to bang your head against a wall is when Pope gets out trying to play one on 8th stump on the up, which he’s entitled to go for after getting himself in, then Brook & Root play the exact same shot despite not getting in and they’re caught at slip.

Well that’s my point there has been more ups than let downs with this side, but you would not think soo reading comments before each test series.

And again, perhaps some can't actually adapt and/or play a proper test innings. So either stay in for a bit, scratch about, and out. Or play some shots and see what comes off.

What I'd say though is at least if they take more time out the game it will at least give the bowlers a bit more rest.

You reference brainless bowling second innings but Broad said looking at Heads dismissals that was the way to go. They just didn't execute it. Anderson added in Head just thrashed away, and it came off, but on another day, is gone early. Basically played his version of Bazball and it worked on the day.

Think alot of the frustration is that it was one of the best most sustained spells of bowling 1st innings from an England team ive seen and one of the quickest of all time.
It showed we had an attack that could take wickets and trouble their batters which we've not had for 10 years in Australia.

We then contrived to lose 20 wickets to a non swinging Starc (who bowled well tbf) and Boland (who bowled two good spells in the match). Effectively got beat by a team that only had two players turn up (Head and Starc)

Tongue with a swinging ball could be lethal, will definitely get it wrong and go round the park but let's be fair a spell or two at 90mph with a swinging ball under lights could cause Carnage.
Here's a question, since it's a 4.30am start, what's people's bait going to be? Snacks, drink of choice of early breakfast

There are optimists and pessimists and if the pessimists are in the majority perhaps it indicates there are issues of concern. A forum will produce many contrasting viewpoints, invariably some such will be viewed as extreme by others. Live and let live.

I’ll probably just get up around 6 which is a tad earlier than I normally would but I’m not going to be setting alarms for the middle of the night.

Then have breakfast around 7:30. I’m at work anyway (I work at sea) and our days normally start at 08:30. Luckily the skipper I’m with next week is a massive cricket fan so I’ll probably be able to do “paperwork” until morning coffee break.
