Do you really see him playing a test match again? I can't at this stage of his career, I think everyone thought this would be his swan song.
He's 37, he hasn't played a lot of cricket over the last couple of months and he was obviously struggling for form. We're trying to bowl out Australia and Jimmy could only get 2 wickets against Durham stiffs, so much so they ended up declaring with 7 wickets down and over 400 on the board. Dress it up anyway you want but that isn't impressive and Steve Smith wouldn't exactly be shitting himself at thought of facing Anderson in that sort of form.

I agree but it is an indicator of form and it shows he wasn't pulling up any trees at a low standard.

exactly this, all it means is you use him when needed for the winter matches, rotate him in or out as required.
same thing with wood if he's fit.
