Anderson finished?

Not sure if others can access but great article by Athers in the times

Tears, graft, glory – farewell James Anderson, my favourite England player

I’m sure I’ll shed a tear. He’s been playing for England most my life, remarkable, absolutely gutted. I love Broad too but someit about Jimmy as he’s just totally and utterly normal.

He looked sad during his interview yesterday about been forced to retire from Test Cricket. Maybe just maybe a new thinking further down the line to bring him back

I dont think they should have forced his retirement really, now I am thinking about it, was there any need?

Just dont pick him this summer, and make it clear at the start the reasons why.

I watched his press conference last night, and the narrative has been that he accepst the decision etc, but I dont think that is true when you watch him speak, I think he is a bit annoyed and slightly gutted

Should keep going for Lancs, I hope he does.

Listening to Tailenders, he definitely doesn't want to retire. I'll never understand the decision to force him out, the excuse of building for The Ashes is just bullshit.
He was definitely angry about it. Basically told in the meeting with Key, Stokes and McCullum that he either retired or would be dropped.

Disgraceful way to treat our greatest test bowler. He should have been able to play until he felt he could no longer give 100%. I couldn't imagine Australia treating one of their greats like this.

He should be treated like any other pro, picked on merit. If his performances are up to scratch he plays, if they tail off, he's dropped.

it's a shonky way to treat anyone, never mind the greatest pace bowler the world has even known.

Took his wickets at 23.37 the last time we were down under, I'll wager anyone that none of our bowlers beat that next time.

There is a Times article by Broad today, it’s exceptional

Yep it's nonsense. Despite his age I've got more faith in him staying fit and bowling well in the conditions we have coming up in the next 18 months.Than I do every other seamer England could possibly call on.

Making ourselves weaker as a side makes zero sense. Woakes won't even be involved in Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia.

Would make more sense retiring him even if he was our best bowler in the Ashes.

I also don't really see how a single test we actually play between now and Australia magically prepares Pennington, Atkinson, Cook for those conditions anyway. Why not have the experience of Jimmy even if his record at certain grounds over there isn't the best.

Bang on

So much for picking the best players.

All the more laughable that they picked 35 year old Woakes, a home track bully with an average of 52 in Australia.
