Anderson finished?

No room for sentiment in top class sport the third time he has been non threatening.

An absolute legend of the game but Tongue should of played we have not picked our best 11 in any of the 4 tests.

Spot on.

It is nothing against Jimmy, he has been a fantastic servant to English cricket but no bowler in the history of the game in modern times has bowled seam in there 40s in test cricket. Unfortunately, this has been a series too far for him against a nation he has historically struggled against. Woakes now performs the role Jimmy does and a young lad had come in, done well and been overlooked. That is plain wrong and smacks of a mates brigade similar to how Foakes and Ahmed were binned for Ali and Bairstow

The issue with Bairstow was he was bought back with no meaningful cricket under his belt. He has not performed and the selectors do not wish to admit to the mistake by calling back Foakes. I can see the logic with both starting Bairstow and Jimmy in this series but continually picking them when there are better alternatives smacks of mate picking. It is sometimes hard for players like Stokes to overlook their mates so the decision should have been taken away from him

We did similar with Root and he carried on as skipper for at least one of not two test series too long as Stokes was mindful not to piss his mate off. Come on this is top level sport

You say no bowler has bowled effective seam in their 40s but Anderson has in the previous two series’. He was a shoo-in for Edgbaston.

In this test I can understand the Tongue call mind.

You can draw parallels with Silverwood having too much say over selection which is what Stokes is currently doing. It has worked against weaker nations but in a 5 match series against the best side around some selections have been exposed

NCB like I said, I can see the logic in starting with him at Edgbaston but alarm bells should have been ringing when he was anonymous at Lords in grey laden skies which were tailor made for him. Stokes also declared early in the first test to give Jimmy a few overs late in the day, again anonymous

I am not calling for him to retire but he should not be playing in this test match

Was poor at Edgbaston
Bowled better at Lords
Bowled fine today but was the least threatening of the seamers.

Had a couple catches dropped of his bowling in the previous test/s, dont think hes been as bad as a 73 average before today suggested.

I probably would have gone Tongue over him here, dont think Jimmy will retire after this series as he will believe the injury set him back before those first 2 tests.

I have doubts over giving him the new ball in the future mind, and it's hard to say he should be in the first XI if Broad, Wood, Woakes, Robinson are bowling better
