Feel sick about this now that the Athletic have reported it. This f***ing club will be the early death of me. Would be the biggest disaster to happen to us for years if we lose him.

The athletic article on Alex Neil for free

Alex Neil, ’s head coach, is currently taking training at the club’s Academy of Light — but expectation is growing on Wearside that he is likely to depart to fill the vacancy at .
Neil has been linked with the role at Stoke, 24 hours after the sacking of Michael O’Neill, and postponed his 9am press conference, leading to suggestions he was already on the cusp of leaving the north east club.
However, he is currently present on the training pitch.
Sunderland have pushed their pre-match press conference back to 2pm, though it is uncertain whether it will take place with Neil or if there will be an announcement on his future.
The Championship side face Neil’s former club at the Stadium of Light tomorrow lunchtime.
The 41 year-old Scot has been with Sunderland since February and turned an under-achieving squad into promotion contenders. In May Sunderland won the League One play-off and have begun their first season in the Championship since 2017-18 well. They won 1-0 at Stoke last Saturday, which was part of the reason O’Neill was dismissed yesterday morning.
Prior to O’Neill’s appointment in November 2019, Neil is understood to have been interviewed by Stoke and to have created a favourable impression.

I'd say this is closer to the mark. He's taking training, pushed the conference back to 2pm. Enough time to create a bit of a stir while his agent talks to the club and sorts out a new deal.
Hope so! Genuinely can’t see him leaving, but I’m less confident than an hour ago

Something is happening, you don’t postpone a scheduled meeting with a room full of press for nothing. Hopefully he is just getting the deal he wants at the club…

I know we've said this a number of times over the years, but I really don't see where we go from here if Neil leaves.

Absolutely gutting.

Just when you think we have it cracked, there's always a sucker punch in the bollocks on the way.

This f***ing club man.
